The manual construction of formal domain conceptualizations (ontologies) is labor-intensive. Ontology learning, by contrast, provides (semi-)automatic ontology generation from input data such as domain text. This thesis proposes a novel approach for learning labels of non-taxonomic ontology relations. It combines corpus-based techniques with reasoning on Semantic Web data. Corpus-based methods apply vector space similarity of verbs co-occurring with labeled and unlabeled relations to calculate relation label suggestions from a set of candidates. A meta ontology in combination with Semantic Web sources such as DBpedia and OpenCyc allows reasoning to improve the suggested labels. An extensive formal evaluation demonstrates the superior accuracy of the presented hybrid approach.

As one begins to explore the many complexities of quantum computing, nanotechnology, and AI, it becomes clear that there is an underlying reality within cyberspace that is comprised of other realities and that these realities all have their own biomes, ecosystems, and microbiomes built on information, energy, and human creative reality and potential. It is clear that there has not been much research on this , especially the piece dealing with the cyber microbiome, which looks at the part of the iceberg that is “under the surface” and makes up most of cyberspace, much like how our human microbiome is many orders of magnitude larger than our human cells. The microbiome is extremely important from the perspective of how to treat diseases in humans, especially bacterial infections. The same is true for how to treat “diseases” in the cyber meta-reality. Thus, knowing all we can about the cyber meta-reality, biome, and microbiome is absolutely necessary in ensuring this world’s growth, care, and flourishing.

Perspectives on Ontology Learning brings together researchers and practitioners from different communities − natural language processing, machine learning, and the semantic web − in order to give an interdisciplinary overview of recent advances in ontology learning. Starting with a comprehensive introduction to the theoretical foundations of ontology learning methods, the edited volume presents the state-of-the-start in automated knowledge acquisition and maintenance. It outlines future challenges in this area with a special focus on technologies suitable for pushing the boundaries beyond the creation of simple taxonomical structures, as well as on problems specifically related to knowledge modeling and representation using the Web Ontology Language. Perspectives on Ontology Learning is designed for researchers in the field of semantic technologies and developers of knowledge-based applications. It covers various aspects of ontology learning including ontology quality, user interaction, scalability, knowledge acquisition from heterogeneous sources, as well as the integration with ontology engineering methodologies.

Knowledge is considered as the most important asset in our modern society. It has now penetrated all facets of computing practice: from the rise of knowledge management to the Semantic Web and from the blog culture to the knowledge economy. This penetration has made proper knowledge engineering a most - quired feature. This volume contains the papers presented at the 16th International C- ference on Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management (EKAW 2008) held in Acitrezza, Sicily, Italy, September 29 to October 3 2008. EKAW 2008 is concerned with all aspects of eliciting, acquiring, modelling and managing knowledge, and their role in the construction of knowledge-intensive systems and services for the Semantic Web, knowledge management, e-business, natural language processing, intelligent integration information, etc. This year we paid special attention to the topic of “knowledge patterns” that can be considered as good practice or models that are applied or reused throughout the knowledge engineering life cycle. Hence, beyond traditional t- icsofEKAW,wesolicitedpapersthatcoverresearchonhowtodescribe, classify, model, extract and apply knowledge patterns in the design of ontologies, app- cations and products. We have paid special attention to the description of ex- riences that involve the application and identi?cation of knowledge patterns in social network analysis, natural language processing, multimedia analysis, p- tern recognition, etc.

Formal Concept Analysis written by Raoul Medina and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-02-15 with Computers categories.
Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) is a mathematical theory of concepts and c- ceptualhierarchyleadingtomethodsforconceptuallyanalyzingdataandkno- edge. The theoryitselfstronglyreliesonorderandlatticetheory, whichhasbeen studied by mathematicians over decades. FCA proved itself highly relevant in several applications from the beginning, and, over the last years, the range of applicationshaskeptgrowing. The mainreasonfor this comesfromthe fact that our modern society has turned into an “information” society. After years and years of using computers, companies realized they had stored gigantic amounts of data. Then, they realized that this data, just rough information for them, might become a real treasure if turned into knowledge. FCA is particularly well suited for this purpose. From relational data, FCA can extract implications, - pendencies, concepts and hierarchies of concepts, and thus capture part of the knowledge hidden in the data. The ICFCA conference series gathers researchers from all over the world, being the main forum to present new results in FCA and related ?elds. These results range from theoretical novelties to advances in FCA-related algorithmic issues, as well as application domains of FCA. ICFCA 2008 was in the same vein as its predecessors: high-quality papers and presentations, the place of real debate and exchange of ideas. ICFCA 2008 contributed to strengthening the links between theory and applications. The high quality of the presentations was the result of the remarkable work of the authors and the reviewers. We wish to thank the reviewers for all their valuable comments, which helped the authors to improve their presentations.
