New York Times bestselling author and co-founder/CEO of The Modern Elder Academy inspires readers to embrace midlife as a time of joy in this “clear blueprint for creating the lives we want” (Gretchen Rubin) The midlife crisis is the butt of so many jokes, but this long-derided life stage has an upside. What if we could reframe our thinking about the natural transition of midlife not as a crisis, but as a chrysalis—a time when something profound awakens in us, as we shed our skin, spread our wings, and pollinate our wisdom to the world? In Learning to Love Midlife, Chip Conley offers an alternative narrative to the way we commonly think of our 40s, 50s and 60s. Drawing on the latest social science research, inspiring stories, and timeless wisdom, he reveals 12 reasons why life gets better with age. They include: The relief of “my body doesn’t define me:” We finally grow comfortable in our own skin Stepping off the treadmill: We redefine what a successful life looks like The “Great Midlife Edit:” We let go of our emotional baggage, mindsets, and obligations that no longer serve us Growing whole: We begin to feel a part of something bigger than ourselves No matter where you are in your midlife journey, this perspective‑shifting guide will inspire you to find joy, purpose and success in the years that lie ahead—and how those years can be your best ones yet.

Harness Your Knowledge and Apply Your Experience to Reinvent the Second Half of Your Career - featuring a foreword by Brian Chesky, cofounder and CEO of Airbnb In our increasingly accelerated world that venerates the new, bright and shiny, many of us in mid-career sense that the ground is shifting beneath our feet, leaving us feeling invisible, undervalued and threatened by the 'digital natives' nipping at our heels. Chip Conley is not buying it, arguing that experience is on the brink of a comeback. At age 52, after selling the boutique hotel company he founded and ran for 24 years, Conley joined Airbnb as Head of Global Hospitality and Strategy. Though rich with experience, the industry veteran lacked the digital fluency of his 20-something colleagues. He quickly discovered that he'd been hired as a teacher and mentor, but was also in many ways a student and intern. What emerged is the secret to thriving as a mid-life worker in today's world: learning to marry wisdom and experience with curiosity, a beginner's mind, and a willingness to evolve. Igniting a bold, urgent conversation about age and ageism in the workplace, Conley liberates the term "elder" from the stigma of "elderly," and reveals the value of wisdom that can only be accrued through years on the planet. Wisdom at Work will teach you how to be indispensable in the second half of your working life. Chip Conley is a New York Times bestselling author, hospitality entrepreneur, and leader at the forefront of the sharing economy. At age 26, he founded Joie de Vivre Hospitality and turned it into the second largest boutique hotel brand in the U.S. Chip is now the Strategic Advisor for Hospitality and Leadership at Airbnb. He is the recipient of hospitality's highest honor, the Pioneer Award.

Ending Midlife Bias written by Nancy S. Jecker and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-02 with Philosophy categories.

We live at a time when the human lifespan has increased like never before. As average lifespans stretch to new lengths, what impact should this have on our values? Should our values change over the course of our ever-increasing lifespans? Nancy S. Jecker coins the term, the life stage relativity of values, to capture the idea that at different stages of our lives, different ethical concerns shift to the foreground. During early life, infants and small children hold dear the value of being cared for and nurtured by someone they trust--and their vulnerability and dependency make these the right values for them. By early adulthood and continuing into midlife, the capacity for greater physical and emotional independence gives people reason to place more emphasis on autonomy and the ability to freely choose and carry out their plan of life. During old age, heightened risk for chronic disease and disability gives us a reason to shift our focus again, emphasizing safeguarding our central capabilities and keeping our dignity and self-respect intact. Despite different values becoming central at different stages of life, we often assume the standpoint of someone in midlife, who is in the midst of planning a future adulthood that stretches out before them. Jecker coins the term, midlife bias, to refer to the privileging of midlife. Midlife bias occurs when we assume that autonomy should be our central aim at all life stages and give it priority in a wide range of ethical decisions. The privileging of midlife raises fundamental problems of fairness. It also suggests the possibility of large gaps in the ethical principles and theories at hand. Ending Midlife Bias: New Values for Old Age addresses these concerns in a step-wise fashion, focusing on later life. Jecker first introduces a philosophical framework that extends moral theorizing to older adults, addressing midlife bias, the life stage relativity of values, human capabilities and dignity, time's passage, the narrative self, and justice between old and young. She then turns to policy and practice and explores ethical issues in bioethics, long term care, personal robotic assistants, care of the dying and newly dead, ageism in medical research, the allocation of healthcare, mandatory retirement, and the future of population aging.

You Matter written by Matthew Emerzian and has been published by Macmillan + ORM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-02-11 with Self-Help categories.

Transform the way you live your life with a message of unexpected hope, radical joy, and deep connection. You matter. Not because of what you earn or how you look or what you’ve achieved, but because you are inherently valuable. Author Matthew Emerzian takes this seemingly simple premise and shows readers how truly understanding their own worth will change every aspect of their lives. You Matter is a call to empathy and a joyous celebration of the value of each and every person. The book is structured into three sections, each of which expands the concept in ever widening ripples. In the first section, “I Matter,” readers come to terms with their own worth, in “You Matter” that awareness expands to acknowledge and celebrate the value of the people around us, and finally in “We Matter” Emerzian explores the power of a thriving community with those around us. Each chapter features exercises, journal prompts, and conversation starters to help readers dive deeper. Author Matt Emerzian is the founder of Every Monday Matters, a not-for-profit dedicated to spreading the message of self-worth and compassion to people throughout the world. Every week 1.2 million people—from elementary school children to employees at national corporations—engage with ideas and concepts from Every Monday Matters. You Matter is a manifesto of self-esteem and call to action for people to find their meaning and live fully—and change the world while doing so.
