Trees contain leaves of different colour, size and shape. Presented are sonnet, lyric, ballad, ode and more for ones enjoyment, each leaf a new page. While reading one is taken to a land of feelings and emotions found in poetry where one can personally experience these private sensations. The rhyme and rhythm change the mood and the beat of the heart. Each page will cause a link to the shadows of ones past. Sadness, pathos, love and joy herein intermingle. One has the sensation of life’s emotion roller coaster joy ride. I was born in 1928 and found an affinity to poetry from the time I could read. I started writing while in public school and have continued in the pursuit of the perfect poem. My working years were spent searching for an occupation I could enjoy and get paid for. Employed by the Canadian National Railroad in Fort Erie, Region Niagara I found my calling, locomotive engineer. In order to attain that lofty position I worked from the section gang up to fireman position and finally graduated to engineer. I ran steam locomotive engines in the days when railroading had lots of romance attached to it. I wrote poems about working conditions, fellow workers, locomotives, and any subject that caught my fancy. My years spent in cadet work and community service did not escape my pen. My life has been blessed with two fine children and two lovely wives. Death unfortunately took both my wives. Our end, my friend!

The alphabet poems, written to go with each piece of artwork, done by 5 to 7-year olds, contain many commonly used words. After the child has read each poem they will read "After you have listened to me, please sign your name on my poet tree." A parent, sibling, grandparent, relative, friend, or teacher will sign one of the leaves with a pen that will not go through the page. The author did something similar with her kindergarten, grade one, and two classes for years as part of her home reading program, and both the parents and students loved it.

There are many books of poetry, but 66 LEAVES, Poems From My Tree of Life, is destined to become one of your favorites. Author, Adrianne Carlino Gentile, shares the many branches of her personal growth as a daughter, mother, lover, and spiritual wise woman. Her verse is insightful without being complicated. This collection of poems encompasses such shared human sentiments as the ecstasy of a lover's thoughts in "Moments to Share", the comfort in tribute to the loss of a parent in "Daddy's Hands", and humor in the retort to a controversial song written about short people in "Shortness Is In, Tallness Is Out". The simple spiritual answer to World Peace in "Why Won't We Listen" is thought provoking. Read 66 LEAVES and relive the unfolding of your own tree of life.

It is often the lot of the creative individual to not be appreciated during their lifetime. While alive, Walt Whitman endured countless campaigns to ban his book of poems, 'Leaves of Grass', on the basis of its obscene sexual imagery. A century later, his poem 'O Captain! My Captain!' featured in the movie 'Dead Poets Society'. Then, the US TV series 'Breaking Bad' included numerous Walt Whitman references in different episodes. Some argue that he was ahead of his time. It is certainly the case that he was a one-off. 'Leaves of Grass', which was first published as a handful of poems and grew to more than 400, is a loosely-connected collection. It focuses on the body and the material world and celebrates the natural world. The poems do not rhyme and do not follow any accepted rules. But they capture people's imagination - and have a place among the greatest works of US poetry. Walt Whitman (1819-1892) was an American poet, essayist and journalist. He was a humanist and is often called the father of free verse - a sobriquet inspired by the unstructured nature of much of his poetry. His poetry collection 'Leaves of Grass' was controversial, with critics decrying its overt sensuality. At different times a teacher, a journalist and a government clerk. Whitman worked in hospitals caring for the wounded during the American Civil War.

The result is a book of discursive meditations that will amply reward the reader. Part travelogue, part pilgrimage in which the shrines remain hidden until they are recognized later, Larry Levis’s startling and complex fifth book of poems is about the enslavement to desire for personal freedom, and the awareness of its price.

Poetry is a unique craft of words driven by the inner thoughts of the poet's personal experiences. In this collection by Liz Gillespie most of the material is gleaned from her personal life and family. The enjoyment of poetry is not only to absorb the subject but to read it... unfettered with grammar and punctuation conventions. If you have a musical aptitude, you will automatically create your very own song with the natural cadence of the verses. A well-written and thought provoking list of stanzas.
