"A real jewel of an elementary introduction into the main concepts of nuclear theory . . . should be in the hands of every student." -- Nuclear Physics. This highly regarded volume, based on a series of lectures given by Landau to experimental physicists in Moscow in 1954, offers concise, lucid discussions of a number of the most important underlying concepts of nuclear physics. The authors, both noted Russian physicists, limit their conclusions concerning nuclear structure to those based on experimental data, using only general quantum-mechanical relations. Throughout, the emphasis is on clarity of physical ideas and on the relation of experiments to theoretical interpretation. Among the topics covered are nuclear forces, including the scattering of nucleons by nucleons and by high energies, the independent particle model of nuclear structure, the structure of the nucleus (light nuclei and heavy nuclei), nuclear reactions (including statistical theory, optical model, and deuteron reactions, pi-mesons, and interactions of pi-mesons with nucleons. "Should prove a decidedly worthwhile addition to any experimental nuclear physicist's library. The book will also appeal to the specialist in other fields who desires insight into the problems of nuclear physics, and should be highly recommended to all physics graduate students." -- Physics Today.

From Nucleons To Nucleus written by Jouni Suhonen and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-04-22 with Science categories.

From Nucleons to Nucleus deals with single-particle and collective features of spherical nuclei. Each nuclear model is introduced and derived in detail. The formalism is then applied to light and medium-heavy nuclei in worked-out examples, and finally the acquired skills are strengthened by a wide selection of exercises, many relating the models to experimental data. For consistency, the surface delta interaction is used in all applications requiring configuration mixing. Nuclear properties are discussed using particles, holes and quasiparticles. A large number of matrix elements of standard operators have been tabulated for reference. From Nucleons to Nucleus is based on lectures on nuclear physics given by the author. It's main scope is thus to serve as a textbook for advanced students. But also researchers will appreciate it as well-balanced reference to theoretical nuclear physics.

Lectures On The Theory Of The Nucleus written by A. G. Sitenko ((Alekseĭ Grigorʹevich)) and has been published by Pergamon this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1975 with Science categories.

Provides an advanced and up-to-date account of the theory of nuclear structure and discusses in considerable detail both the superfluid and collective models of the nucleus, in addition to earlier complementary models and theories. The book also examines other important topics such as the rotational and vibrational spectra of nuclei which have not previously been treated in such depth. To summarize, it covers a large amount of theoretical ground in one volume and attempts to fill a serious gap in the literature. Many problems are included

This 2003 book is a rigorous introduction to the theory of complex angular momenta, based on the methods of field theory. This is an English translation of the famous lecture course given by Vladimir Gribov in 1969. Besides their historical significance, these lectures are highly relevant to modern research in theoretical physics.

Experimental evidenees for non vanishing neutrino masses are now very eon vincing. In the third English edition we have rewritten the paragraphs in which, in the previous edition the question of the neutrino mass has been left open. We have mueh appreciated the diseussions with Stephan Sehönert (Heidel berg) on the new results of the neutrino oseillations and their interpretations. We would like to thank Martin Lavelle (Plymouth) for the translation of the newly written paragraphs and Jürgen Sawinski (Heidelberg) for the exeellent work he has done in reformatting the book. Heidelberg, May 2002 Bogdan Povh Preface to the Second Edition The second English edition has been updated from the fifth edition of the original German text. The principal addition is a chapter on nuclear ther modynamics. We consider in this chapter the behaviour of nuclear matter at high temperature, how it may be studied in the laboratory, via heavy ion experiments and how it was of great importance in the initial stages of the universe. Such a phase of matter may be described and interpreted using the tools of thermodynamics. In this way a connection between particle and nuclear physics and the currently exciting research areas of cosmology and astrophysics may be constructed. We would like to thank Martin Lavelle (Plymouth) for the translation of the new chapter and for revising the old text and Jürgen Sawinski (Heidelberg) for the excellent work he has done in reformatting the book.
