Kierkegaard has always enjoyed a rich reception in the fields of theology and religious studies. This reception might seem obvious given that he is one of the most important Christian writers of the nineteenth century, but Kierkegaard was by no means a straightforward theologian in any traditional sense. He had no enduring interest in some of the main fields of theology such as church history or biblical studies, and he was strikingly silent on many key Christian dogmas. Moreover, he harbored a degree of animosity towards the university theologians and churchmen of his own day. Despite this, he has been a source of inspiration for numerous religious writers from different denominations and traditions. Tome I is dedicated to the reception of Kierkegaard among German Protestant theologians and religious thinkers. The writings of some of these figures turned out to be instrumental for Kierkegaard's breakthrough internationally shortly after the turn of the twentieth century. Leading figures of the movement of 'dialectical theology' such as Karl Barth, Emil Brunner, Paul Tillich and Rudolf Bultmann spawned a steadily growing awareness of and interest in Kierkegaard's thought among generations of German theology students. Emanuel Hirsch was greatly influenced by Kierkegaard and proved instrumental in disseminating his thought by producing the first complete German edition of Kierkegaard's published works. Both Barth and Hirsch established unique ways of reading and appropriating Kierkegaard, which to a certain degree determined the direction and course of Kierkegaard studies right up to our own times.

S Ren Kierkegaard written by Elmer H. Duncan and has been published by Hendrickson Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Philosophy categories.

Søren Kierkegaard (1813-1855), little known or read outside of Denmark in his own day, has come to be widely appreciated for his affirmation of the Christian faith and his critique of the human condition. He is responsible for one of the major currents of twentieth-century thought, existentialism, which emphasizes the priority of existence over essence. Christian existentialism appropriated his insights for theology and ethics, stressing human experience, freedom, and the commitment of faith. Elements of his approach are found in Karl Barth, Paul Tillich, Emil Brunner, Rudolf Bultmann, Reinhold Niehuhr, and Karl Rahner. Kierkegaard tried to clarify for his contemporaries the nature of Christianity, stressing that no philosophical system could explain the human condition. He emphasized the subjectivity of truth and could not refrain from attacking the cold formality and indifference of the state church of his day. In this book, Dr. Duncan guides the reader critically and skillfully through Kierkegaard's life and works. Book jacket.

Subjectivity And Religious Truth In The Philosophy Of S Ren Kierkegaard written by Merigala Gabriel and has been published by Mercer University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Philosophy categories.

Merigala Gabriel's main objective is to thoroughly examine subjective truth, which is the core concept in Kierkegaard's philosophy. Here Gabriel contrast subjective truth with objective truth in order to highlight the significance of subjective truth in its religious context and to bring out the inadequacy of objective truth. The principle of absolute paradox connected with the subjective truth is also discussed. The study also aims to present a detailed analysis of the aesthetic, ethical, and religious stages that represent existential dialectic, to examine their interrelationship and to show how the religious mode of existence is the key to genuineness in real existence. Care is taken to examine the disjunction between reason and faith: to bring out the importance of "faith" in Christianity and to show the limitations of science as far as Christianity is concerned. Gabriel also addresses the relation between God and Man. Finally, the importance of Kierkegaard's thought and his contribution to the development of "subjectivity and religious truth" are outlined.
