Putting Activity Theory To Work written by Yrjö Engeström and has been published by Lehmanns Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-01-01 with Education categories.

Cultural-historical activity theory is a powerful toolkit for social sciences. This book demonstrates how the Finnish school of developmental work research uses activity theory in the analysis and practical transformation of work, technology and organizations. Developmental work research is a longitudinal and interventionist approach. Researchers aim at generating, supporting and following cycles of expansive learning in the activity systems they study. The process opens up qualitatively new possibilities for creating use values and for developing the capabilities and agency of the practitioners and their clients. Critical dialogue and partnerships are built between the researchers and the organizations they study. In their 18 chapters, the 23 authors of the book give a broad sample of work done over a period of ten years in the Center for Activity Theory and Developmental Work Research at University of Helsinki. The theoretical and methodological themes range from the polyphony of activity to relationships between history, ethnography and interventions. The empirical chapters range from the work of teachers and judges to collaboration between industrial enterprises. Yrjö Engeström is Professor of Adult Education and Director of the Center for Activity Theory and Developmental Work Research at University of Helsinki. Joachim Lompscher (1932-2005) was Professor Emeritus of Educational Psychology at University of Potsdam. Georg Rückriem is Professor Emeritus of Education at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. "Developmental work research is an innovative approach to the study and reshaping of work and learning. It expands cultural-historical activity theory by bringing it to the domains of work, technology and organizations. The world of work is in turmoil, increasingly dominated by 'runaway objects' generated by globalization and greed (global markets are such massive objects out of control). Yet it is the object that motivates work and generates visons of better future. The use values of objects have not vanished, although they are more difficult to grasp than perhaps ever before. Developmental work research rediscovers and expands use values in runaway objects. In workplace interventions it engages practitioners in expansive re-forging of the objects of their work."--Cover.

The Satisfiability Problem written by Schöning, Uwe and has been published by Lehmanns Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-01-01 with Algorithms categories.

The satisfiability problem of propositional logic, SAT for short, is the first algorithmic problem that was shown to be NP-complete, and is the cornerstone of virtually all NP-completeness proofs. The SAT problem consists of deciding whether a given Boolean formula has a “solution”, in the sense of an assignment to the variables making the entire formula to evaluate to true. Over the last few years very powerful algorithms have been devised being able to solve SAT problems with hundreds of thousands of variables. For difficult (or randomly generated) formulas these algorithms can be compared to the proverbial search for the needle in a haystack. This book explains how such algorithms work, for example, by exploiting the structure of the SAT problem with an appropriate logical calculus, like resolution. But also algorithms based on “physical” principles are considered. I was delighted to see how nicely the authors were able to cover such a variety of topics with elegance. I cannot resist saying that the introduction to SAT on page 9 is absolutely the best I ever expect to see in any book! Donald E. Knuth, Stanford University This book gives lucid descriptions of algorithms for SAT that are better than you would think! A must-read for anyone in theory. William Gasarch, University of Maryland It was a wonderful surprise to see a deep mathematical analysis of important algorithms for SAT presented so clearly and concisely. This is an excellent introductory book for studying the foundations of constraint satisfaction. Osamu Watanabe, Tokyo Institute of Technology

"This manual closes a circle which began almost thirty-five years ago (November, 1954) with the beginning of work an a doctoral dissertation defended at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in April, 1957 (published in Spanish in 1962). During three decades of teaching and writing the author has kept an active interest in poetics and stylistics and the resulting accumulated knowledge has been concentrated in the present manual. The primary purpose of the book is not to serve as a source of Information about facts and authors but rather to initiate the reader into the stylistic analysis of poetry. To obtain Information and to classify it the reader can turn to recent works (Watson), earlier works (Knig, Hempel), or reprinted works (Bullinger). Among the poetic techniques discussed are Sound and sonority, rhythm, imagery, figures of Speech, dialogue and monologue, development and composition"--Page 4 of cover.

History Of Forensic Medicine written by Burkhard Madea and has been published by Lehmanns Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-01-01 with Medical categories.

Forensic Medicine is an old medical discipline defined as “that science, which teaches the application of every branch of medical knowledge to the purpose of the law” (Alfred Swaine Taylor). Forensic Medicine deals with medical evidence not only in practice but also in research and furthermore all legal essentials in health care especially for doctors are part of teaching, training and research. Several steps in the development of Forensic Medicine can be distinguished: At first the use of medical knowledge for legal and public purposes.Secondly the compulsory medical testimony for the guidance of judges.Thirdly the professionalization as an own academic discipline. The development and existence of a speciality of Forensic Medicine depends essentially on two factors: on a sufficiently high development of the law and on a sufficiently high development of medicine. The period of professionalization of Forensic Medicine as an own academic discipline started in the 19th century, especially in Paris, Vienna, London, Edinburgh, Berlin. Since than the world has changed dramatically and we are now witnesses of a rapid, deep-rooted social cultural, legal and technological transformation. Already 40 years ago Professor Bernhard Knight wrote in a survey on legal medicine in Europe: “In all aspects of life, the exchange of information on an international level can do nothing but good and legal medicine is no exception.” This book on the History of Forensic Medicine is an approach in this direction. Forensic Medicine has a long and rich tradition since medical expertise has to face legal questions and new questions and developments raised by the society. The aim of this book is to address the state of Forensic Medicine in different countries worldwide. With contributions from Europe, China, Japan, the United States and the United Arabic Emirates.
