During his late period, Nietzsche is particularly concerned with the value that mankind attributes to truth. In dealing with that topic, Nietzsche is not primarly interested in the metaphysical disputes on truth, but rather in the effects that the "will to truth" has on the human being. In fact, he argues that the "faith in a value as such of truth" influenced Western culture and started the anthropological degeneration of the human type that characterizes European morality. To call into question the value of truth is therefore necessary, if one wants to help mankind to find her way in the labyrinth of nihilism. In this new addition to Nietzsche scholarship, Gori explores the origin and aim of the philosopher's late perspectival thought by merging the theoretical with the historical approach, with a special focus on the epistemological debate that influenced Nietzsche. As a result, the book provides a contextual reading of the issue that supports the idea that Nietzsche’s attitude in addressing the problem of truth is, in a broad sense, pragmatic.

Producing this change was a non-secondary aim of a philosophy that, in the spirit of modern reflexivity, had the pride of calling itself "critical", firm in the intention of reconciling the different needs of reason.

Non c’è soddisfazione più grande che rompere il velo dell’ingenuità millenaria con cui consideriamo le cose attorno a noi, e rivedere il mondo con l’esperienza di aver letto la Critica della Ragion Pura. Ma è difficile: i resoconti altrui non soddisfano, e il senso dell’intenso testo di Kant non si lascia cogliere, perché il filosofo, vedendo le cose in modo così diverso dal consueto, non poté trovare un modo di esprimersi che fosse adeguato ai presupposti dei lettori del tempo a venire. Questa guida, concepita per essere letta non prima, ma insieme al testo di Kant, conduce il lettore di oggi a sperimentare l’immenso piacere di impadronirsi del senso dell’opera più importante del grande illuminista. Una guida che si legge insieme al testo di Kant perché consta di brevi commenti precisamente riferiti a determinati capoversi della Critica della Ragion Pura, commenti che traducono le parole di Kant in un linguaggio chiaro e familiare per il lettore di oggi. Le indicazioni di lettura prima di tutto mettono in guardia il lettore rispetto ai presupposti impliciti di Kant, che sono la prima delle fonti di difficoltà, e poi danno atto di quei presupposti di Kant che il lettore del ventunesimo secolo non può accettare: cosicché potremo capire Kant stando umilmente sulle sue spalle. Il poco che sappiamo per esperienza, quello che vorremmo saperne, quello che concepiamo di ideale, dopo la lettura della Critica della Ragion Pura appaiono in una luce completamente diversa: non più come cose che ci sovrastano, ma come idee che produciamo attraverso gli stati di coscienza elementari che sono in noi e che determinano il modo in cui interpretiamo l’universo delle percezioni che ci colpiscono. I testi esplicativi di questa guida accompagnano il lettore ad appropriarsi del libro di Kant mentre il senso della visione del grande filosofo gli appare sempre più chiaro, e in fondo anche semplice, come sono i pensieri profondi quando si è percorsa la via che conduce a comprenderli.

Scomodare il concetto di sistema oggi è affar di cattivo gusto. Dalle grandi cosmologie al potere di centralizzazione dello Stato-nazione, dalla forma partito al presunto consenso universale in ambito scientifico, peccare ancora di titanismo moderno significa mancare il reale. Eppure, la stessa esigenza di concretezza che ha individuato nel molteplice e nel discontinuo la cifra della contemporaneità condivide aspetti non secondari con quella tensione verso il tenere insieme che ha animato i momenti più alti della modernità filosofica. L’interrogazione sull’apparente rifiuto del sistema nel post-strutturalismo si complica, andando oltre la tesi, ormai consolidata, di una semplice dismissione. Dalla ricostruzione storica delle fortune del sistema emerge allora una radicale riconfigurazione dell’”io tengo insieme”, di origine greca e di fortuna tedesca. Ecco perché una questione che sembrava chiusa da tempo, quella del sistema, riemerge nel dibattito filosofico, politico e tecnologico.
