Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Psychology - Personality Psychology, grade: 70%, University of Sussex, language: English, abstract: Some people think they are entitled to more than others. This behaviour can be classified and is called Psychological Entitlement. This study examines Entitlement in a service context using an online survey with 248 participants. As the first of its kind, this study is able to confirm a connection between self-awareness of physical attractiveness and entitled behaviour. In addition, it is shown that individuals who show Entitlement also have higher expectations of the emphatic behaviour of service personel. Thus, it can be confirmed that psychological entitlement is not just a theoretical construct, but a concept that influences everyday life in a relevant manner. A relationship between attractiveness and expectations could only be established by the Mediator Entitlement. This means that individuals who consider themselves to be particularly attractive do not automatically have high expectations of services. This only becomes relevant through a certain degree of entitlement.

Essay from the year 2005 in the subject Didactics for the subject English - Pedagogy, Literature Studies, grade: 2,0, University of Paderborn, language: English, abstract: Children learn at a different speed and rate. There is a huge variety of different teaching methods. One of these methods is invented by Georgi Lozanov. His desuggestopedia theory believes in the power of students’ feelings and puts the main focus on them. “The reason for our inefficiency [...] is that we set up psychological barriers to learning: We fear that we will be unable to perform, that we will be limited in our ability to learn, that we will fail.” At first the change of the name has to be explained. The originator documents his theories on his present homepage: [...] some not qualified person understood suggestion as a kind of hypnosis. But now with the term desuggestion it is easier to understand that it is not possible to think about hypnosis in suggestopedia. Only freedom of personality, inner freedom. These are the reasons for changing the name. The only cause were the feelings and ideas of the people who deal with this term. The task of desuggestopedia is to help students to eliminate negative feelings. They do not have to be afraid of answering questions or being unsuccessful. Moreover, they should feel free in the whole learning process. I agree with the opinion of this method that the reduction of mental barriers causes a strengthened self-confidence and prevents students from thinking about the fear of failure and this leads to a better attitude for learning. With the help of the information and observations from the Diane Larsen-Freeman book I will present how the “psychological barriers” vanish.

Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome written by Joy DeGruy and has been published by HarperCollins this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-05-23 with History categories.

From acclaimed author and researcher Dr. Joy DeGruy comes this fascinating book that explores the psychological and emotional impact on African Americans after enduring the horrific Middle Passage, over 300 years of slavery, followed by continued discrimination. From the beginning of American chattel slavery in the 1500’s, until the ratification of the Thirteenth Amendment in 1865, Africans were hunted like animals, captured, sold, tortured, and raped. They experienced the worst kind of physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual abuse. Given such history, Dr. Joy DeGruy asked the question, “Isn’t it likely those enslaved were severely traumatized? Furthermore, did the trauma and the effects of such horrific abuse end with the abolition of slavery?” Emancipation was followed by another hundred years of institutionalized subjugation through the enactment of Black Codes and Jim Crow laws, peonage and convict leasing, and domestic terrorism and lynching. Today the violations continue, and when combined with the crimes of the past, they result in further unmeasured injury. What do repeated traumas visited upon generation after generation of a people produce? What are the impacts of the ordeals associated with chattel slavery, and with the institutions that followed, on African Americans today? Dr. DeGruy answers these questions and more as she encourages African Americans to view their attitudes, assumptions, and emotions through the lens of history. By doing so, she argues they will gain a greater understanding of the impact centuries of slavery and oppression has had on African Americans. Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome is an important read for all Americans, as the institution of slavery has had an impact on every race and culture. “A masterwork. [DeGruy’s] deep understanding, critical analysis, and determination to illuminate core truths are essential to addressing the long-lived devastation of slavery. Her book is the balm we need to heal ourselves and our relationships. It is a gift of wholeness.”—Susan Taylor, former Editorial Director of Essence magazine

Recent developments in education, such as the increasing linguistic diversity in school populations and the digital revolution which has led to new ways of being, learning and socialising, have brought about fresh challenges and opportunities. In response, this book shows how technology enriches multilingual language learning, as well as how multilingual practices enrich computer assisted language learning (CALL) by bringing together two, thus far distinct, fields of research: CALL and multilingual approaches to language learning. The collection includes contributions from researchers and practitioners from three continents to illustrate how native languages, previously studied languages, heritage languages or dialects are activated through technology in formal and informal learning situations. The studies in this book showcase multilingual language use in chat rooms, computer games, digital stories, ebook apps, online texts and telecollaboration/virtual exchange via interactive whiteboards. This volume will be of interest to researchers interested in language learning and teaching and to practitioners looking for support in seizing the opportunities presented by the multilingual, digital classroom.

Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject American Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, 10 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: When Susanna Haswell Rowson wrote her play "Slaves in Algiers" in 1794, many people in America and Europe were fascinated by stories about the Orient. The exotic tales from faraway countries with strange animals, hot deserts, magnificent palaces, and captured sailors attracted many readers. It did not matter if the described events were true or not, as long as they provided an exciting story with Oriental scenery. Writers then created their own picture of the Orient, often with exaggerating fantasy. The interesting aspect of Rowson's play is therefore her view of the Oriental people and their culture in contrast to the American people and their culture. She creates a specific picture of the Arabic culture and its people to show the advantages of the American values. It is also notable how she describes the difference of the sexes and their struggle for liberty in a foreign land. Rowson describes in "Slaves in Algiers", with the help of the characters, her opinions on liberty, emancipation, and white slavery in the Orient. Rowson's description of the Orient and the Arabic culture in the drama is her device to show the superiority of American values and the importance of liberty in every society. The historical context and the definition of Orientalism serve as a basis to understand her opinions.

The Routledge Handbook of Heritage Language Education provides the rapidly growing and globalizing field of heritage language (HL) education with a cohesive overview of HL programs and practices relating to language maintenance and development, setting the stage for future work in the field. Driving this effort is the belief that if research and pedagogical advances in the HL field are to have the greatest impact, HL programs need to become firmly rooted in educational systems. Against a background of cultural and linguistic diversity that characterizes the twenty-first century, the volume outlines key issues in the design and implementation of HL programs across a range of educational sectors, institutional settings, sociolinguistic conditions, and geographical locations, specifically: North and Latin America, Europe, Israel, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and Cambodia. All levels of schooling are included as the teaching of the following languages are discussed: Albanian, Arabic, Armenian (Eastern and Western), Bengali, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese, Czech, French, Hindi-Urdu, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Pasifika languages, Persian, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and Yiddish. These discussions contribute to the development and establishment of HL instructional paradigms through the experiences of “actors on the ground” as they respond to local conditions, instantiate current research and pedagogical findings, and seek solutions that are workable from an organizational standpoint. The Routledge Handbook of Heritage Language Education is an ideal resource for researchers and graduate students interested in heritage language education at home or abroad.
