"Dek, usia kandungan kamu ini kan sudah menginjak sembilan bulan. Kamu lahiran di rumah orang tuamu saja ya Sayang, lusa nanti Mas antar kamu pulang kampung!" ucap Mas Adam saat kami baru saja selesai sarapan. Tiba-tiba saja pergerakan tangannya yang sedang mengusap perut buncitku terhenti. Dia mendongak, menatap wajahku lekat-lekat. "Bukannya aku enggak mau melahirkan di rumah orang tuaku Mas. Hanya saja, usia kedua orang tuaku sudah terbilang tua. Akan sangat merepotkan sekali jika mereka harus mengurusku yang melahirkan di sana. Bagaimana jika penyakit rheumatik Emak kumat gara-gara menungguiku di ruang rawat rumah sakit yang pasti menggunakan pendingin udara?" sambungku, mencoba mengutarakan isi hatiku. "Jangan gitu dong Sayang. Kalo lahiran di sini, nanti kamu enggak ada yang ngurusin." Mas Adam beralibi. Sepertinya ia memang ingin aku dekat dengan ke dua orang tuaku saat melahirkan nanti. Kebetulan ini memang kehamilan pertamaku, tentu aku ingin ditemani oleh Emak. Tetapi bukan berarti aku tak keberatan jika suamiku sendiri tak menyaksikan kelahiran anak pertama kami. "Kan ada bi Surti Mas, dia kan sudah biasa beres-beres di sini." Aku masih berusaha mempertahankan pendirianku. Bi Surti adalah orang yang Mas Adam bayar untuk mengerjakan pekerjaan rumah. Biasanya dia akan datang setelah Mas Adam pergi ke kantor dan akan pulan sebelum suamiku pulang. "Bi Surti cuma sampe siang aja di sini Dek. Udah jangan mendebat lagi ya sayang! Lagi pula kampung orang tuamu, enggak terlalu jauh kan dari sini? Nanti kalau kamu sudah merasakan kontraksi, kamu telpon saja Mas. Mas janji akan segera menyusulmu ke rumah sakit. Mas akan menemanimu berjuang di sana," bujuk Mas Adam seraya mengecup pucuk kepalaku. Rumah orang tuaku memang tidak terlalu jauh, hanya butuh waktu dua jam saja jika di tempuh dengan mobil pribadi. "Ok deh, tapi janji ya Mas. Kamu bakalan langsung dateng kalo aku menelpon?" kataku sambil mengacungkan jari kelingking. "Mas janji Sayang." Mas Adam menautkan jari kelingkingnya ke jari kelingkingku. Lalu kami saling mengulas senyum. Kemudian dia bangkit dan meraih tas kerjanya, lalu menyodorkan tangannya ke hadapanku. Dengan senyum termanis, aku sambut uluran tangan Mas Adam dan menciumnya takzim. Mengiringi kepergiannya dengan do'a-do'a terbaik.
