This book is a book of daily devotions that can be read every day from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday. In Mathew 22: 36 - 40 Jesus said, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the law and the prophets hang on these two commandments. The verses in this book continue to support this scripture over and over again. Some of the verses were taken from the New International Version for clarity. Others were taken from the King James Version for its beauty and poetry. In most cases each verse is a only one page in length so that it can be easily read each day. This book is basically a book of faith in God and love for our fellow man. I hope the reader will be inspired to love God and love his neighbor.

Mother Mary Francis, abbess of a Poor Clare Monastery for over forty years, left an enduring legacy in her writings and in the conferences she gave to her spiritual daughters. In this work she presents beautiful meditations on the liturgical season of Lent, revealing the treasures of the liturgy to Christians in all walks of life. Her insight into Holy Scripture and her poet's heart engendered reflections that illuminate the daily Mass readings in a fresh and attractive way. These meditations enlighten the reader to see conversion as positive and enriching, and help us to understand that the generous embrace of Lenten penance has a purpose and brings a wondrous reward: deeper union with God. She was a true daughter of Saint Francis of Assisi, who found perfect joy by turning away from self to God. As a spiritual guide, Mother Mary Francis excels in the art of persuasion, aware that the human heart cannot be forced but only gently led to holiness. She makes this goal attractive and desirable by tirelessly explaining why striving for holiness is the happiest and wisest way to live. This book provides a wealth of material for plundering the riches of the Lenten season and for deepening one's spiritual life. Her meditations are profound and timeless, not changing from year to year, thus providing a lifetime of Lenten meditations in this one volume.

Forty Days Plus Three written by John McIlhon and has been published by Liturgical Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Holy Week categories.

In these reflections on the readings for Lent and the Triduum, Monsignor McIlhon invites us to ponder the consistency between what we believe about human dignity and how we live that dignity. If Lent becomes a daily journey whereby we consent to become one with the visible features of Christ's risen life, waiting to be raised from the dyings of our life, then the paschal mystery becomes a marvelous experience. Although he writes with great sensitivity and theological depth, Monsignor McIlhon does not become pedantic nor does he go beyond the depth of the average reader. For priests, religious, and serious lay people looking for something more than pious writing about the most important season of the Church year, this book will make excellent Lenten reading.

Mercy Not Sacrifice written by Janus, Mark-David, CSP, PhD and has been published by Paulist Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023 with Religion categories.

As Christians, we are often told that Lent is a time when we must sacrifice in order be worthy of God. But as Mark-David Janus, CSP, reminds us, it is important to reflect instead on what God wants most—Mercy. “Lent is where we come face to face with mercy, our need for mercy, the experience of God’s generous mercy, the challenge to be merciful to others, and perhaps hardest of all, be merciful to ourselves. It is through mercy we come to the knowledge of God.” In this spiritual journey through Lent—from Ash Wednesday to Good Friday—Fr. Janus invites readers to take a little time each day with a short quotation from scripture (taken from the day’s liturgy) and offers a thoughtful and thought-provoking reflection of his own that will challenge and enliven one’s faith.

Daily Lenten Meditations written by Pope John Paul II and has been published by LiturgyTrainingPublications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Religion categories.

Pope John Paul II's pontificate has been one of the longest and most eventful of the whole history of the Catholic Church. More importantly, this Pope's enduring and courageous preaching of the Gospel message throughout the world has meant that an unprecedented number of people have been exposed to its challenging and invigorating influence. People of the most varied cultures and degrees of Christian commitment have listened to this ambassador of Christ as he addressed their needs and concerns while digging deep into the words of Jesus. Many have been moved to take up the Gospels themselves and rediscover their on-going relevance. Others have felt their devotion to the Church strengthened or have better understood its call to conquer evil with good, violence and hatred with forgiveness, selfishness and pride with humility and self-giving. The present volume is a small representation of John Paul II's teaching presented as a help to those who wish to live the Christian Church's season of Lent more meaningfully. However, it can also meet the interest of inquirers who wish to know something of the Pope's message to Christians and of his hopes for a world in which the respect for truth and the knowledge of God's love bring joy and peace to the hearts of many.
