In Marxism and Philosophy Korsch argues for a reexamination of the relationship between Marxist theory and bourgeois philosophy, and insists on the centrality of the Hegelian dialectic and a commitment to revolutionary praxis. Although widely attacked in its time, Marxism and Philosophy has attained a place among the most important works of twentieth-century Marxist theory, and continues to merit critical reappraisal from scholars and activists today.

Marxism And Philosophy In The Twentieth Century written by Richard Hudelson and has been published by Praeger this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1990-09-25 with Business & Economics categories.

Useful to both students and scholars of the social sciences and humanities, this book provides a guide to fundamental issues in twentieth-century Marxist thought. Outlining the two distinct and incompatible critiques of vulgar Marxism-- Marxist-Leninism and humanistic Marxism--that gained prominence in the aftermath of World War I, this book presents both an historical overview of these two dominant traditions and a critical analysis of their philosophical roots. Challenging the viewpoints of Marxist thought which have prevailed in this century, Richard Hudelson, argues that the supposed philosophical breakthroughs claimed by both Marxist-Leninism and humanistic Marxism rest upon flawed reasoning. With a careful critique of these prevailing views he presents his own view which while receptive to the social scientific work of current analytical Marxism, de-emphasizes the importance of philosophy in the study of Marxism. Hudelson contends that developments in contemporary philosophy of science will allow for an appreciation of the scientific Marxism of the Second International without recourse to the philosophical theories of humanistic Marxism and Marxist-Leninism. Also, using some of the more recent developments in the philosophy of science, this book makes possible a fruitful exchange between analytical Marxism and Marxist-Leninism. Divided into three parts, the book first presents a historical introduction which identifies positions and arguments of historical significance. This is followed by an analytical look at various arguments to determine where the strongest position lies. Finally, the author offers some concluding remarks on the significance of his analysis for current directions within Marxist philosophy.

In recent writings on Marx one finds an increasing interest in his humanism. This phenomenon began in the third decade of our century as a reaction against the mechanistic and stereotyped image of Marx 1 characteristic of the Second International and of Stalinism. Lukacs, in History and Class Consciousness (1923), was one of the first to discover this new Marx, and he did so even before the most important 2 of the humanistic writings of the young Marx had been discovered. With the publication ofthese writings in 1932 - namely, the Economic 3 and Philosophic Manuscripts of 1844 - this new outlook was given enormous impetus. In these Manuscripts, Marx makes the human being the creator and the goal of alI reality. The objectification of the human essence through labor transforms both society and nature. Labor transforms its wor1d into a place which mirrors, unfolds, and confirms the human being. This humanism is a complex and many-faceted issue. In this book we will be concerned only with a certain part of it, i.e., the epistemology, method, and doctrine of nature which it involves. Other aspects of it - Marx' concept of alienation and his theory of labor and the state -have 4 been dealt with elsewhere.

On Changing The World written by Michael Löwy and has been published by Humanities Press International this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993-01-01 with Political Science categories.

This collection of essays deals with the history of Marxism as a political philosophy and provides a heterodox reintegration of the revolutionary socialist tradition. Michael Lowy highlights cultural, "spiritual," or ethical dimensions largely neglected by the economistic tendency dominant in much Marxist literature - the national question, religion, Utopia, and above all the Romantic impulse in Marxist political culture. "Politics" does not mean here only questions relating to power and state, but the broad range of issues common to everyday human life. And "philosophy" refers to basic theoretical, methodological, or ethical interrogations. Moreover, this is a political philosophy that aims, as Marx wrote in his famous "Thesis XI on Feuerbach," not only at interpreting but above all at changing the world. That is why the concept of revolution - its various historical and social dimensions-is a central theme in most of these essays. In addition to Karl Marx, the essays focus on authors belonging to the revolutionary/humanist tendency in Western Marxism: Rosa Luxemburg, Gramsci, Lukacs and Walter Benjamin. These diverse writers share an understanding of socialism as the only truly human alternative to modern forms of barbarism, a dialectical or Hegelian approach to social reality, and, Lowy stresses, a recognition of Romanticism as one of the key sources of the Marxist critique of capitalist civilization and an important component of the Marxist Utopia.

Lenin And The Logic Of Hegemony written by Alan Shandro and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-07-10 with Political Science categories.

In Lenin and the Logic of Hegemony, by means of a careful textual and contextual analysis of the writings of Lenin and his Marxist contemporaries, Alan Shandro traces the contours of the ‘(anti-) metaphysical event’ identified by Gramsci in Lenin’s political practice and theory, the emergence of the ‘philosophical fact’ of hegemony. In so doing, he effectively disputes conventional caricatures of Lenin’s role as a political actor and thinker and unearths the underlying parameters of the concept of hegemony in the class struggle. He thereby clarifies the conceptual status of this pervasive but now increasingly elusive notion and the logic of theory and practice at work in it.

Max Weber Modernisation As Passive Revolution written by Jan Rehmann and has been published by BRILL this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10-23 with Political Science categories.

Basing his research on Gramsci’s theory of hegemony, Rehmann provides a comprehensive socio-analysis of Max Weber’s political and intellectual position in the ideological network of his time. Max Weber: Modernisation as Passive Revolution shows that, even though Weber presents his science as ‘value-free’, he is best understood as an organic intellectual of the bourgeoisie, who has the mission of providing his class with an intense ethico-political education. Viewed as a whole, his writings present a new model for bourgeois hegemony in the transition to ‘Fordism’. Weber is both a sharp critic of a ‘passive revolution’ in Germany tying the bourgeois class to the interests of the agrarian class, and a proponent of a more modern version of passive revolution, which would foreclose a socialist revolution by the construction of an industrial bloc consisting of the bourgeoisie and labour aristocracy. © 1998 Argument Verlag GmbH, Hamburg. Translated from German “Max Weber: Modernisierung als passive Revolution. Kontextstudien zu Politik Philosophie und Religion im Übergang zum Fordismus”.
