Die Absolventenliste des Austauschprogramms liest sich wie ein �Who is Who� der deutschen Nachkriegseliten: Namen wie Franz Josef Strau�, Ludwig Erhard, Hildegard Hamm-Bruecher, Johannes Dyba, Alois Hundhammer oder Robert Lembke finden sich darunter. Die Autorin geht den Reiseerfahrungen der bayerischen Teilnehmer des Programms nach. Sie analysiert den schwierigen Lernprozess zwischen Adaption und Ablehnung und zeigt anhand konkreter Beispiele, wie in Amerika erworbene Kenntnisse in Bayern verwertet wurden. .
