Aujourd'hui, nous sommes confrontés (depuis près de deux siècles) à des crises de valeurs, à l'absence de sens, à la sensation du vide sans concept, à la violence démultipliée, finalement à une crise de notre civilisation européenne. Durant 18 siècles, la culture européenne/occidentale se confondait avec la culture chrétienne : toutes les sphères de la société comme l'éducation, l'instruction, la religion, la morale, la politique (...) étaient façonnées et dirigées par le christianisme ecclésial. Voilà que ces sphères sont libres grâce aux coups portés par la philosophie des Lumières (...) contre la chrétienté. Mais cette libération de l'obscurantisme a-t-elle pris la forme d'un déchirement violent entre l'homme et la culture chrétienne, entre l'homme et Dieu ? De sorte que dans ce double divorce (forcé ?), faut-il trouver les racines de nos problèmes d'aujourd'hui ? En effet, le fameux " Dieu est mort " de Nietzsche a-t-il provoqué pour longtemps une crise profonde et irréversible de notre système de pensée, de notre système de valeur de vie ? Comment comprendre le vieillissement agonisant de notre culture occidentale ? En quel sens, la mort de Dieu a-t-elle entraîné la mort de l'homme et donc la mort de l'anthropologie ou plus exactement de l'anthropocentrisme ? Tentons de dessiner les contours de la philosophie de la mort de l'homme (en dialogue avec les autres cultures).

This "Liber Amicorum" is published at the occasion of Judge Lucius Caflisch's retirement from a distinguished teaching career at the Graduate Institute of International Studies of Geneva, where he served as Professor of International Law for more than three decades, and where he has also held the position of Director.
