EXTRAIT Première créature humaine féminine de Dieu selon la Bible. Le livre de la Genèse dit que « Dieu créa l’homme à son image (...) homme et femme il les créa » (1,27). Mais la narration dit aussi qu’Ève fut tirée d’une côte ou plus évasivement du flanc d’Adam, son compagnon mâle. Adam signifierait « homme » et Ève signifierait « femme » bien qu’une définition hébraïque lui attribue le sens de « vivante ». Il est amusant de lire que Dieu présenta les animaux, créés avant l’homme, et qu’il confia à Adam le soin de donner un nom à chacune des espèces. En dehors des mammifères, nombreux, on peut s’interroger sur la manière dont il passa en revue des espèces marines, célestes ou des insectes. Bien évidemment Adam n’y trouva pas de compagne, ce qui implique l’originel besoin d’alter ego, et une androgenèse cependant non évoquée dans le récit biblique. Selon une croyance rabbinique, une autre créature, une certaine Lilith aurait été répudiée (voir Lilith), mais ce n’est biblique que dans une version hébraïque ou par l’interprétation analogique de certains rabbins de l’expression « une autre femme ». Lilith aurait été indépendante alors qu’Ève était soumise, ce qui convint davantage aux premières civilisations phallocrates.
