La réflexion au cœur de cet ouvrage s’appuie sur la théologie de l’inculturation de la foi en lien avec l’interculturalité. En considérant le concept de la double appartenance, lors de la célébration des funérailles chrétiennes chez les Baoulés de Côte d’Ivoire, on peut soutenir qu’il se tient au seuil de l’inculturation comprise comme inscrite dans une logique de dialogue, entre le christianisme et les croyances religieuses baoulées. Aussi, cette inculturation consiste-t-elle en une reprise des dimensions symboliques et communautaires de la tradition qui ne se contente pas d’éliminer les aspects problématiques de celle-ci, (sacrifice aux ancêtres, interrogatoire de moralité du défunt, recherche d’un coupable, etc.), mais va au cœur du dispositif de disjonction et de conjonction, caractéristique de la pensée thanatique africaine, pour promouvoir une dimension constructive de réconciliation. Toute cette trajectoire de théologie thanatique inculturée, éclairée ainsi par le mystère pascal, s’ouvre à la catholicité pentecostale de l’Église.
