In questo anno, il 2023, il Ministero degli Affari Esteri e della Cooperazione Internazionale ha scelto di dedicare la XXIII Settimana della lingua italiana nel mondo all’italiano e la sostenibilità. È una scelta importante, che sottolinea come il tema della sostenibilità, nelle sue varie curvature, vada affrontato anche con il contributo della lingua; e, va sottolineato, anche con il contributo – essenziale – della lingua italiana. Il movimento di sostegno, promozione e azione a favore di uno sviluppo sostenibile è globale e pertanto internazionale, e quindi linguisticamente dominato dall’inglese. Ma perché una politica di sostenibilità sia realmente realizzabile è necessario coinvolgere tutti i cittadini, a ogni livello, perché soltanto con una reale e cosciente condivisione generale un così difficile risultato può essere raggiunto; e per avere l’appoggio di tutti è necessario che tutti comprendano bene le ragioni, espresse in modo chiaro a prescindere dall’età, dall’istruzione, dalla provenienza geografica e sociale. Sviluppo sostenibile significa anche farsi il giusto carico della società nelle sue molteplici sfaccettature, guardando alla parità di genere, e guardando anche alla salvaguardia e allo sviluppo delle lingue in un contesto realmente plurilingue e multilingue. Linguisti e non linguisti offrono in questo libro il loro contributo alla riflessione sulla sostenibilità, nel modo canonico della trattazione scientifica, ma anche in quello eccentrico della creazione artistica.
