“Jones, the drummer for the Who after Keith Moon died, recalls his musical life in this modest and self-effacing rock and roll memoir.” —Publishers Weekly From the Mod revolution and the British Invasion of the 1960s, through the psychedelic era of the 1970s, and into the exuberance and excesses of stadium rock in the 1980s, Kenney Jones helped to build rock and roll as we know it. He was the beat behind three of the world’s most enduring and significant bands. He wasn’t just in the right place at the right time. Along with Keith Moon, John Bonham, and Charlie Watts, Jones is regarded as one of the greatest drummers of all time, sought after by a wide variety of the best-known and best-selling artists to bring his unique skill into the studio for the recording of classic albums and songs—including, of course, the Rolling Stones’s “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It).” And Jones is no shallow rock star. He may play polo with royalty from across the globe now, but this is the story of a ragamuffin from the East End of London, a boy who watched his bandmates, friends since his teens, die early, combated dyslexia to find a medium in which he could uniquely excel, and later found a way through the wilderness years when the good times seemed to have gone and he had little to fall back on. Kenney Jones has seen it all, played with everyone, and partied with all of them. Let the Good Times Roll is a breathtaking immersion into music past that leaves readers feeling as if they lived it too.

Ric Ocasek’s rock and roll classic, “Good Times Roll”—one of the Cars’ greatest hit songs—leaps off the page in this exhilarating picture book. “Let the good times roll Let them knock you around Let the good times roll Let them make you a clown . . .” Good Times Roll is a delightful picture book based on the Cars’ hit rock and roll song written by lead singer/guitarist Ric Ocasek. “Good Times Roll” was the third single on the Cars’ groundbreaking debut 1978 album The Cars, which has sold over six million copies and peaked at #18 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Artist Rob Sayegh Jr. perfectly captures the playful spirit of Ocasek’s song in this beautifully illustrated picture book. Any child (or adult) who’s ever spent time with a cat will appreciate how good the times roll for felines when chasing an unraveling ball of yarn. With energy and humor, Sayegh’s cat will charm parents and children alike, to the tune of one of rock and roll’s most memorable songs

You should know right now that your life can finally get better. Whatever you've been struggling with, for however long, can actually get better. Almost immediately. For real. I didn't know anything about Not Eating a few years ago but I was a dang expert in intransigent problems. I knew all about soul killing, life sucking problems that just wouldn't get better, but could always get worse. You may have run into some of these problems yourself, who knows. Marriage problems, money problems, friend problems, kid problems, food problems, health problems, drinking problems. I had them all doubled over, shaken up, and coughed out. Then through a series of events that I'll elaborate on a little later, I will just say God made it pretty dang clear to me that I was supposed to Not Eat and I was supposed to ask my wife Susan to Not Eat with me. So I did that. And she said yes. We were going to Not Eat for three days and then I would ask God to save us. Something happened during those three days and we realized we weren't ready to stop. So we kept Not Eating for 21 days. No food. No juice. No supplements. Just prayer. That right then was the beginning of the second half, the better half, of my life here on earth. Over the next year, Susan and I went on another 21 day Not Eat, a 40 day Not Eat, and a few other shorter Not Eats. Over a 13 month period, we didn't eat for a total of about 100 days. And God saved us and totally transformed our family. I realize from telling the story enough now, that if you don't know me or even if you do, you might think I am making this up. For the record, I am not making this up. It is true. But please please please do yourself a favor, and don't miss out on how your life can be transformed for the better based on whether you believe me or not. About this whole Not Eating thing, I know what you're thinking right off the bat because I think it too every time I do this. Here it is: Not Eating? Not gonna do it. No food? No way. I can't do it. It's going to suck. What about lunch? What about dinner? What about breakfast? And shoot, I'm kind of hungry right now. And then you go eat. Every person who ever Not Ate thought the same thing before they did it too. Here's some people who did Not Eat even though they wanted to eat: Moses, Jesus Christ, King David, Elijah, St. Paul, Gandhi, Cesar Chavez. And me, Greg Bass. One of these things is not like the other. So funny. But seriously, my name is in there too, even though I am ridiculous. If you knew me, you'd know it's not because I'm in the same league as great people from history. My name is in there because Anybody can Not Eat and get a miracle, even if that person is a big screwup. Like me. Or, perhaps, like you. So if you or somebody you know needs help, big help, and nothing else seems to be helping, maybe you should try: Not Eating!

Ink written by Clifford R. Murphy and has been published by University of Illinois Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-07-23 with Music categories.

The product of a hardscrabble childhood, J. Mayo “Ink” Williams parlayed an Ivy League education into unlikely twin careers as a foundational producer of Black music and pioneering Black player in the early NFL. Clifford R. Murphy tells the story of an ambitious, upwardly mobile life affected, but never daunted, by white society’s racism or the Black community’s class tensions. Williams caroused with Paul Robeson, recorded the likes of Ma Rainey and Blind Lemon Jefferson, and lined up against Chicago Bears player-coach George Halas. Though resented by the artists he exploited, Williams combined a rock-solid instinct for what would sell with an ear for music that put him at the forefront of finding, recording, and blending blues and jazz. Murphy charts Williams’s wide-ranging accomplishments while providing portraits of the cutthroat recording industry and the possibilities, however constrained, of Black life in the 1920s and 1930s. Vivid and engaging, Ink brings to light the extraordinary journey of a Black businessman and athlete.

A Prefect S Uncle written by P. G. Wodehouse and has been published by DigiCat this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-21 with Fiction categories.

P. G. Wodehouse's novel 'A Prefect's Uncle' crafts a delightful tapestry of youthful mischief and schoolboy shenanigans at the quintessentially English backdrop of Beckford College. With Wodehouse's distinctive literary style, the narrative unfurls through the eyes of the mischief-maker Reginald Farnie, whose arrival at the school upends the established order. This entry into the canon of children's literature brims with the characteristic wit and comical precision that precedes Wodehouse's later and more renowned works, such as the Jeeves and Wooster series. The lively prose and playful use of language situate 'A Prefect's Uncle' within a tradition of English literature that celebrates the eccentricities and capriciousness of youth. The author, P. G. Wodehouse, is a literary craftsman known for his dexterity in conjuring light-hearted escapades that charm and entertain. His own experiences at Dulwich College may well have inspired the depiction of the illustrious Beckford. It is his unique ability to weave frivolity with sharp observation that has led Wodehouse to pen 'A Prefect's Uncle', capturing the essence of public school life and its tradition-laden milieu with a humorous twist that echoes his early 20th-century contemporaries. 'A Prefect's Uncle' is recommended for readers who relish classic English humor peppered with a dash of rebellion. Wodehouse invites us to revisit our own youthful follies through the prism of his inventive storytelling. The book beckons not only young readers but also adults who appreciate the perennial charm of school stories and the timeless humor that Wodehouse masterfully delivers. Embrace the nostalgia, wit, and innocent revelry that 'A Prefect's Uncle' promises – an enjoyable read that reaffirms Wodehouse's role as a stalwart of comedic literature.
