Lettere dal carcere è una raccolta di lettere di Antonio Gramsci.L'opera che conosciamo con questo titolo non coincide con l'intero carteggio delle lettere gramsciane e nemmeno con quello di tutte le lettere che Gramsci scrisse dal carcere durante la sua detenzione (dall'8 novembre 1926 fino praticamente alla sua morte avvenuta nel 1937). Parte cospicua delle lettere di Gramsci, scritte durante la prigionia, sono infatti conservate in forma autografa o in copia presso la Fondazione Istituto Gramsci di Roma e sono state pubblicate via via dapprima su riviste o giornali militanti.Si tratta di lettere scritte ai familiari, per la maggior parte alla madre, al fratello Carlo, alle sorelle, alla moglie, alla cognata Tatiana e ai figli. Esse hanno una periodicità che varia tra la settimana e i quindici giorni con numerosi intervalli di silenzio. Possono esse considerarsi un racconto che si fa man mano sempre più tragico fino al commiato dalla vita che si percepisce nei biglietti inviati nel 1936 ai figli che non ha potuto seguire nella loro prima formazione. Egli ora cerca di riempire il distacco con molte domande per poterne capire le attitudini, la mentalità e crearsi così una immagine del loro sviluppo psicofisico cercando anche di dare alcuni consigli.
