Questo libro propone la raccolta delle lettere che Manina Consiglio ha inviato ai suoi amici dal Madagascar, dove vive dal 1997. Ha costruito scuole, ambulatori, pozzi e ha dato un impulso importante e pubblicamente riconosciuto alla lotta alla povertà e al diritto all'istruzione, alla sanità, alla vita. Soltanto per restare nel fondamentale ambito dell'istruzione, sono 325 le scuole costruite che ospitano ben 18.500 alunni, dalla materna alle superiori. Una cronaca ricca di particolari che descrive il lavoro mensile e talvolta giornaliero che impegna Manina ed i suoi collaboratori e che disegna un modo differente di costruire solidarietà. Il suo aiuto al cosiddetto "terzo mondo" è diverso e spesso quasi in contrasto con la versione della "cooperazione ufficiale" alla quale siamo abituati ad essere introdotti da media e politica nel nostro ricco mondo occidentale. Manina spiega spesso in modo chiaro e con esempi concreti come dovrebbe a suo avviso svilupparsi l'aiuto e la solidarietà a questi popoli, ma non ne fa una teoria o una palestra dialettica: semplicemente opera e offre i risultati come prova dell'efficacia del suo sistema. Manina è nata a Napoli, si è laureata in Filosofia ed ha insegnato per tanti anni nella scuola italiana. Poi ha deciso di dare una svolta alla sua vita e si è trasferita in Madagascar dove vive e continua a operare socialmente in favore del popolo malgascio.
