DEAREST WIFE AND GIRLS provides a glimpse into the lives of the author's parents during World War II. The book is based on 124 love letters Pvt. Cisco sent to his wife, Mary Opal, from the time of his induction in August, 1944 and, while he served in Europe through 1945 in Gen. Patton's Third Army, the 11th Armored Division, 41st Cavalry. The letters reveal great insight into the young couple's lives during this difficult time for them and the U.S. The power of hope, faith and humor sustained Pvt. Cisco during the long months of combat and being away from his family. His letters always encouraged his wife to be positive and have faith that he would return safely to her and the "little girls." It is evident from the letters that he enjoyed hearing about news at home and what his family and friends were doing. The author provides interesting comments about what her mother, sister and she were doing back in Ohio while Pvt. Cisco was three thousand miles away, personally entangled in a world conflict. The author reveals some of the day combat command movements of the 11th Division through the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Austria, Czechoslovakia and finally Germany, including liberating many concentration camps. After the war ended in Germany the letters reveal Pvt. Cisco's concerns about being redeployed to the war in the Pacific to defeat Japan and when he might be discharged from the military and return home. Also, to better understand references made in the letters, the author provides historical information on the battles occurring on the various war fronts, on the leaders and govenments of many countries and military personalities involved in this global crisis. The book contains a collection of the "THUNDERBOLT WAR NEWS" taken from the "11TH THUNDERBOLT PRESS." The news clippings are eye witness reports written by war correspondents imbedded with the 11th Division during the war. Also, there are actual "AFTER ACTION G-2 REPORTS" reporting intelligence information during combat and after the battles. But most importantly, this is a love story expressed in the soldier's letters to his wife. Through the letters the reader can feel Pvt. Cisco's emotions, anxieties, the longing for his wife and the home sickness he felt, missing his wife and young daughters, and the life he had known in America before he was drafted in the military to serve his country.

"Letters of Love and War" is an apt title, I believe, because it capsulizes the emotion that young people of the: Great Generation" must have experienced from being torn apart by the ravages of war. These letters present an honest and straightforward account of their struggle and how they remained resilient throughout, preserving their love for each other and for their country. The book has letters that range from the mundane to the sublime and yet maintain consistency throughout. One can experience a "one on one" immediacy from reading their letters and those of their loved ones. One is swept up and brought back in time to 1944 and 1945 when the world was at war, and all of America was united with the effort to win and defeat the evil forces that were attempting to destroy their country and the freedoms that they all enjoyed. The letters bring the urgency of this effort home to us, the reader. We are one amongst them as we read letter after letter and empathize with the perils they had to endure. Read the letters, and you too will understand how lucky we were to have their great generation precede us.

This is a unique war story, based on more than 350 letters that the author's father wrote to her mother from the front lines in Italy in 1944 and 1945. These are love letters, deeply intimate. While vividly recounting the brutal life of a combat soldier, they also reveal the intense connection between the author's mother and father. Through extensive quotes from the letters, the book conveys in powerful detail what he thought, felt, and experienced as a company commander in combat. Her letters do not survive, but his responses to her show the strength of their relationship. They write about mutual friends, the quotidian details of their lives, the weather, food, the war news. They tease each other. They send each other gifts and photos. They dream about life after the war. Sometimes they quarrel-he worries about money and chides her about her spending habits. She becomes frustrated over irregular and delayed mail and blames him for it. But every letter conveys his love for her, his aching for her, his sense of being with her despite the distance and the war. This is also the story of the war itself, of dangerous night patrols, German artillery, supplies coming to the front by mule, days and days with no sleep, dead and wounded soldiers, German war prisoners, and, finally, victory. This poignant juxtaposition of the personal and the historical, based on a rare quantity of first-hand material, is spellbinding and inspiring.

A Story Of Love And War written by Robert V. Parenti and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-12-11 with History categories.

During World War II, a young soldier struggles to make his way in a duplicitous Army, while writing letters to the girl back home he hopes to return to. Robert Parenti vividly describes his life during that historic time and how his experiences had a formative influence on his future. The letters tell of the 8th Armored Division's training at Camp Polk, LA., its assignment to England for the invasion of Europe and its dispatch into Holland just before the surprise German attack in the Battle of The Bulge. Many of the letters describe Parenti's views of the Dutch, the Germans and the war, and will be easily understood by most veterans. Non veterans also will see war from the level of a private first class and not that of the generals. The letters saved and forgotten until recently discovered, chronicle his experiences in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during the battles for victory and provide a historical review from the soldiers' perspective. A true and engaging story including photos of war artifacts collected by the author and war damaged areas taken at that time.

Love Kurt written by Kurt Vonnegut and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-01 with Literary Collections categories.

A never-before-seen collection of deeply personal love letters from Kurt Vonnegut to his first wife, Jane, compiled and edited by their daughter “A glimpse into the mind of a writer finding his voice.”—The Washington Post “If ever I do write anything of length—good or bad—it will be written with you in mind.” Kurt Vonnegut’s eldest daughter, Edith, was cleaning out her mother’s attic when she stumbled upon a dusty, aged box. Inside, she discovered an unexpected treasure: more than two hundred love letters written by Kurt to Jane, spanning the early years of their relationship. The letters begin in 1941, after the former schoolmates reunited at age nineteen, sparked a passionate summer romance, and promised to keep in touch when they headed off to their respective colleges. And they did, through Jane’s conscientious studying and Kurt’s struggle to pass chemistry. The letters continue after Kurt dropped out and enlisted in the army in 1943, while Jane in turn graduated and worked for the Office of Strategic Services in Washington, D.C. They also detail Kurt’s deployment to Europe in 1944, where he was taken prisoner of war and declared missing in action, and his eventual safe return home and the couple’s marriage in 1945. Full of the humor and wit that we have come to associate with Kurt Vonnegut, the letters also reveal little-known private corners of his mind. Passionate and tender, they form an illuminating portrait of a young soldier’s life in World War II as he attempts to come to grips with love and mortality. And they bring to light the origins of Vonnegut the writer, when Jane was the only person who believed in and supported him supported him, the young couple having no idea how celebrated he would become. A beautiful full-color collection of handwritten letters, notes, sketches, and comics, interspersed with Edith’s insights and family memories, Love, Kurt is an intimate record of a young man growing into himself, a fascinating account of a writer finding his voice, and a moving testament to the life-altering experience of falling in love.
