Theology For A Liberating Church written by Alfred T. Hennelly and has been published by Georgetown University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Freedom (Theology) categories.

Freedom is a fundamental Christian theological category, as much a challenge to construct a new way of seeing oneself and others as it is an announcement of what Christ has already done for us in his death and resurrection. Liberation theology is, most simply, the effort to spell out what such freedom means for Christians in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. This book has as its principle premise the conviction that if we are to construct a North American liberation theology we must begin listening to and understanding Latin American theology not so much as a model to be slavishly followed but as a challenge to our own cultural, political, and even religious assumptions. The focus thus is not so much on the theoretical meaning of Christian freedom but on its practice, and more exactly its praxis, that is to say the dialectic between theory and practice. After focusing on the creation and development of liberating theological methods and sources and, above all, the revitalization and renewal of structures that will contribute to the development of a liberated and liberating church, Fr. Hennelly ends with an analysis of the most recent and the most important vatican document on liberation theology, The Instruction of Christian Freedom and Liberation, which he sees as an acknowledgement by the universal church that the theme of liberation is central to the meaning of Christian theology.

"This book takes a giant step both in theology and in social ethics. It forces theologians to examine the worship and spirituality of Hispanic Pentecostals as a source of theological construction and pushes the Pentecostalists themselves to see the broader social implications of their own faith expressions. With both Hispanic peoples and Pentecostalists forming a larger and larger portion of the American cultural and religious reality, this is a vital book, indeed an indispensable one, for any person knowledgeable about our society to read and ponder."Harvey Cox - Harvard Divinity School"Here is a pioneering book. . . . Villafane works a synthesis of the cultural and the spiritual and celebrates the capacity of Pentecostalism to appeal to Hispanic Americans. The time is ripe for this important book which delves into the very passion of the human heart and offers an ethic of hope and liberation. It should be read by anyone interested in the spiritual condition of Hispanics in a pluralistic society."Jesse Miranda - Azusa Pacific University"The Liberating Spirit should be required reading for anyone interested in the study of social ethics, Pentecostal theology, or Hispanic American theology. Dr. Villafane has broken the long-standing bifurcation of the profane and the sacred so often associated with Pentecostal theology. The Liberating Spirit introduces us to a new and liberating way of being Christians led by the spirit in the modern world."Samuel Solivan - Andover Newton Theological School"Fully aware of the pitfalls and promises of oral theology, Villafane approaches his topic from inside an Hispanic Pentecostal understanding of the Spirit, vividly describing the pains and joys of an Hispanic Pentecostal in the United States. . . . After reading this book it is impossible to paint the whole Pentecostal movement with the brush of right-wing theological and political conservatism."Walter Hollenweger - University of Birmingham, England

Current debates on decolonisation call for academic disciplines, including the practitioners of Black theology, to reflect on its content and curriculum. This edited volume actively engages in these ongoing dialogues, specifically addressing the pertinence of a Black theology of liberation within the postapartheid landscape. It not only delves into the historical underpinnings of this theological framework but also endeavours to establish a conceptual framework for assessing its significance within the current discourse on decolonising theological disciplines. In addition to shedding light on the historical importance of Black theology, the late Vuyani Vellem poses a crucial question: “What lessons has Black theology yet to learn?” This inquiry by emerging South African scholars serves as a guide for navigating the path forward in developing this theological perspective. Beyond emphasising the historical context, the volume aims to contribute to broader discussions about social cohesion in South Africa, where conflicting socio-political narratives persist. This work adds to the theoretical development by grappling with the history of Black theological thought and influences contemporary engagements with theology. Its impact spans various levels, encompassing the reconsideration of Black theology’s influence on race, gender, politics, community development, and more. Ultimately, this volume serves as a catalyst for understanding and reshaping the discourse on Black theology, offering valuable insights for navigating the complexities of theological thought in today’s diverse and evolving landscape.

This book is about three complementary ideas: 1) learning is a practice of freedom; 2) liberating learning in public education requires widespread cultural change in classrooms, schools, and entire education systems; and 3) social movements have been the most powerful vehicles for widespread cultural change, and in their logic of operation lie the keys to liberate learning. Drawing on existing knowledge and new research on educational change, the author offers nine principles of action to liberate learning in schools and across entire educational systems. Topics discussed include learning, pedagogy, leadership, education policy, widespread cultural change, collective action, and whole system improvement. Written for educators and leaders interested in transforming teaching and learning in classrooms and schools, as well as for public intellectuals and people interested in widespread pedagogical change, the book articulates a new way to think about and pursue educational change.
