This monograph looks at the need for distance education technology as a result of demographic and socioeconomic changes and examines the role of the school library media program in facilitating the changes in education resulting from the utilization of distance education technology. The first section presents the mission of the school library media program as envisioned in guidelines for library media specialists published by two national professional organizations in 1988; discusses four challenges inherent in that mission; and gives examples of current responses to these challenges. Section 2 deals with changes in demographics that the educational system needs to address as the year 2000 is approached, and the third section provides a synopsis of the use of distance education technology and how it is being used to address the changing needs of students and staff. Section 4 reviews how school districts in northeastern Wisconsin are using distance education technology to enhance learning opportunities for students and the community and to expand opportunities for staff development, staff communication, and resource sharing. Sections 5 and 6 deal with the role of the library media specialist in integrating distance education programming into elementary and secondary education. A map of instructional television sites in Wisconsin and a Satellite Educational Resources Consortium fact sheet are appended. (93 references) (MES)

Education has become the number one demanded commodity for social and economic transformation for both developing and developed economies. Thus the number of persons going and returning to school has become too big to be handled by existing brick and mortar learning institutions. Besides, the majority of lifelong learners do not have the time to become full-time students. Distance education is becoming the solution to the aforementioned challenges. It has been defined as the mode of study where the learner is separated in time and space from the institution and tutors providing the tuition.

Leading And Managing Open And Distance E Learning Odel Institutions In Africa written by Cuthbert Majoni and has been published by Vernon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-18 with Education categories.

'Leading and Managing Open and Distance E-Learning (ODeL) Institutions in Africa' focuses on e-learning, especially in developing countries in Africa. The outbreak of COVID-19 has forced most educational institutions, including conventional institutions in higher education, to embrace e-learning as a tool to ensure that education is not paralysed but continues to thrive. However, the major challenge has been shifting focus from the conventional face-to-face mode to the e-learning mode. This calls for a change of mindset and a review of practices to ensure success in implementing e-learning. This book has 12 chapters that explore the leadership theories and approaches that influence administrative practices in ODeL institutions, as well as student support within library and information services, the complexities of student affairs, the inclusion of students with special needs, the contemporary issues of innovation and industrialisation, and effective marketing techniques for the survival and growth of tertiary institutions. It is hoped that the recipients of this book can acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to the successful implementation of e-learning.
