[...] Las cadenas de valor se insertan en un contexto social: los patrones de conducta de género condicionan las tareas de las mujeres y de los hombres en el empleo así como la distribución de los recursos y los beneficios derivados de los ingresos generados a través de la cadena de valor y la competitividad y la eficiencia de las cadenas de valor en los mercados mundiales. [...] El desarrollo de cadenas de valor afecta los roles y las relaciones de género: por ejemplo, los cambios en los roles y en las relaciones de género pueden provenir de las nuevas tecnologías, los cambios en los cultivos de mayor valor, la formalización de la propiedad y las prácticas domésticas de gestión financiera.
