Like many other young married couples in the 1970s who were struggling to make a better future for their family Life in the Sandpit outlines my personal tale to improve my familys lifestyle. My wife Jean and I had to make some hard decisions if we were to achieve our goal. Having secured a job in the petroleum industry working in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia my adventure began. I, as well as my wife, were both apprehensive and yet excited at the same time, of the prospect of my living and working in another country. The downside being I would be going alone leaving my wife, my eight years old daughter Nicola and my six years old son David behind. The trials and tribulations of educating myself, not only in the technical aspects of my role, but also in adapting to a totally different culture was a big challenge. I was to meet many people on my journey and experience many, at times frightening, events, but all adding to my lifes tapestry. At the age of 31 years and going to work in a developing country, I was to witness many changes as the oil wealth was being used to improve the infrastructure of Saudi Arabia. During the period of my time in the Kingdom of Saudi between May 1977 and May 1978 there were major projects just starting and I in my tale I reflect on the part I played in the early stages of development. But for me it was the engagement with the people I met and worked with that produced the main adventure. The year I spent in Saudi was to shape my life in a most wonderful way.

Enter into the shadows of the Roman catacombs where early Christians attended Mass and hid in fear from Roman soldiers seeking their death for refusing to renounce the Christian Faith. You’ll read dramatic acts of faith and courage as Fr. James Spencer Northcote, the world-renowned 19th-century expert on the catacombs, relates the intense belowground life of the catacombs. For over three centuries, Christians buried their dead in often elaborate crypts hollowed out for them underground by fossors — designated diggers whose status was just below that of deacons and priests. With scores of maps and illustrations in these pages, you’ll see that the architecture of many crypts was as elaborate as buildings above-ground, creating under the streets and fields of Rome a second-city—indeed, a Christian city in the very heart of pagan Rome—graced with broad underground tunnels and large rooms where assemblies could be held. In good times and in bad, during peace and during persecutions, the catacombs were central to the vibrant life of the early Church, whose history is here retold from its creation to its eventual decline, loss, and then, hundreds of years later, its rediscovery.

Enterprising Initiatives In The Experience Economy written by Britta Timm Knudsen and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-09-19 with Business & Economics categories.

Over the last decade, the close relationship between culture and economy - or "the experience economy" – has risen on the agenda. Although there is an established research field for analysing the economic impact of entrepreneurship, there is currently a limited amount of research that analyses the cultural impact and opportunity of entrepreneurship. Linking experience economy with enterprising behavior moves the term away from businesses' competitiveness and consumer behavior towards a more value-focused business in general. This ground-breaking book integrates entrepreneurship and empowerment into one central theme, drawing on research from both the social sciences (innovation, entrepreneurship, empowerment and activism) and the humanities (participatory culture, user-generated designs, creative networks). Enterprising Initiatives expands the definition of entrepreneurship beyond a primarily economic profit-seeking phenomenon to a broader understanding of enterprising behaviour based on an individual-opportunity nexus. Beyond social entrepreneurship, it explores a broad range of individual, collective and cooperative citizen initiatives under the umbrella of enterprising action. This innovative approach will be of great interest to scholars in entrepreneurship, social entrepreneurship, cultural entrepreneurship, cultural studies, and consumer culture, as well as for policy makers in public and local government, regional development and cultural event management.
