Fathers play the most influential role in the stability and future success of their children. Yet so many times, children are left to grow up fatherless. In Life Without the Father, Clyde Stewart recounts his experiences as a young black man growing up without a father. When he found himself as a teenager with a child, he had to make a choice: perpetuate the cycle, or break free. Life Without the Father is written to guide men into success as they choose to fulfill their responsibilities as fathers. With common sense and spiritual insight, Clyde navigates the issues that fathers deal with and leads them to a place where they can see the vast importance of their role in this world. He reveals how God's divine purpose has been to entrust the seed of humanity with men, and that the blessings of the harvest are only possible through obedience to that calling. God has not called fathers in vain, however, because he has given them the power of his Holy Spirit so that they can accomplish and receive the blessings set before them. For those struggling with fatherhood, learn to see the true greatness and potential of a solid relationship with your child. For those that feel they have nothing to offer, find the special calling of God that he has only given to you.

A personal story of learning to trust our heavenly Father when you feel your earthly father has let you down. Blair Linne’s personal story of growing up without a father at home reflects the experiences of millions. She weaves her personal story with thoughtful theological reflection, inviting readers to learn from God what "father" really means and to trust him, even if they feel their earthly father has let them down. This book will help readers to shift their eyes from what they do not have in their earthly fathers (who, whether present or absent, loving or the opposite, can never be perfect) to what they do have in their eternal Father, who will never disappoint, reject or abandon them. Readers will see that the gospel promises not just forgiveness but also a place in God's family, experienced in a local church, where they can enjoy the fullness of his fatherly joy, care, wisdom, provision, protection and security. Also includes a chapter by Blair’s husband, the Christian hip-hop artist Shai, on his own story of fatherlessness and faith.

"With passion and precision, Fatherless America demonstrates that whether our concern is with teenage pregnancy, crime, violence against women, educational failure, or child poverty, no social trend of our generation is more dangerous than fatherlessness. It weakens families, harms children, causes or aggravates our worst social problems, and makes individual adult happiness harder to achieve." "This explosive book goes beyond documenting the effects of fatherlessness on individual families to show how the very ideal of fatherhood is under siege - with devastating consequences for society at large. Fathers are increasingly seen as expendable - or as part of the problem. "Does every child need a father?" David Blankenhorn asks. "Increasingly, our answer is 'no,' or at least 'not necessarily.'""--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

For too long, we've thought of fathers as little more than sources of authority and economic stability in the lives of their children. Yet cutting-edge studies drawing unexpected links between fathers and children are forcing us to reconsider our assumptions and ask new questions: What changes occur in men when they are "expecting"? Do fathers affect their children's language development? What are the risks and rewards of being an older-than-average father at the time the child is born? What happens to a father's hormone levels at every stage of his child's development, and can a child influence the father's health? Just how much do fathers matter? In Do Fathers Matter? the award-winning journalist and father of five Paul Raeburn overturns the many myths and stereotypes of fatherhood as he examines the latest scientific findings on the parent we've often overlooked. Drawing on research from neuroscientists, animal behaviorists, geneticists, and developmental psychologists, among others, Raeburn takes us through the various stages of fatherhood, revealing the profound physiological connections between children and fathers, from conception through adolescence and into adulthood—and the importance of the relationship between mothers and fathers. In the process, he challenges the legacy of Freud and mainstream views of parental attachment, and also explains how we can become better parents ourselves. Ultimately, Raeburn shows how the role of the father is distinctly different from that of the mother, and that embracing fathers' significance in the lives of young people is something we can all benefit from. An engrossing, eye-opening, and deeply personal book that makes a case for a new perspective on the importance of fathers in our lives no matter what our family structure, Do Fathers Matter? will change the way we view fatherhood today.

This concise book is filled with practical steps to help men raise sons of consequence--young men who know what they believe, know who they are, and will stand up against the negative cultural trends of our day. Jon Tyson lays out a clear path for fathers and sons that includes specific activities, rites of passage, and significant "marking moments" that can be customized to fit any family. It's not enough to hope our sons will become good men. We need them to be good at being men. This book shows how fathers, grandfathers, and other male mentors can lead the way.

While it's hard to fathom, an estimated 27.4 million children are growing up without their biological father. This leads to an increased risk of suicide, substance abuse, and potential criminal activity. As shocking as this may be, there are some things that young men and their families can do to stop this vicious cycle and live a successful and fulfilling life. Without a Father is able to show young men, single mothers, and community leaders and mentors how to help young men navigate their way through a world that sometimes seems to be working against them. More so, author Kenny Joyner shows all men that they have value and that their presence in a child's life matters more than they may understand. Whether you're a fatherless son looking for inspiration from a man who walked in your shoes, a single mother trying to get a peek inside your son's head and heart, or an absentee father working to cultivate a relationship with their child, Without a Father can give you the necessary tools and guidance you need. In the book, you'll discover how to take the experiences you have to overcome obstacles and better your life while also learning key principles to help you become the success you're destined to be. Finally, Joyner teaches you how faith works with you and in you to combat fears, insecurities, and shortcomings that may be holding you back.

Disturbing The Nest written by David Popenoe and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-14 with Family & Relationships categories.

Disturbing the Nest assesses the future of the family as an institution through an historical and comparative analysis of the nature, causes, and social implications of family change in advanced western societies such as the United States, New Zealand, and Switzerland by focusing on the one society in which family decline is found to be the greatest, Sweden. The founding of the modern Swedish welfare state was based in large part on the belief that it was necessary for the state to intervene in society in order to improve the situation of the family. Of great concern was the low birthrate, which was seen as a threat to the very survival of Swedes as a national population group. The Social Democrats pioneered welfare measures that aimed to strengthen the family, to alleviate its worst trials and tribulations, and to make possible harmonious living. With the Social Democrats remaining in power continuously until 1976, a period of almost forty-five years, Sweden went on to implement governmental "family policies" that are among the most comprehensive (and expensive) in the world. In view of this major policy goal of family improvement, the actual situation of the Swedish family today presents a genuine irony; some have claimed that Swedish welfare state policies have had consequences that are the opposite of those originally intended. Comparing contemporary Swedish family patterns with those of other advanced nations, one finds a very high family dissolution rate, probably the highest in the Western world, and a high percentage of single-parent, female headed families. Even marriage seems to have fallen increasingly out of favor, with Sweden having the lowest marriage rate and latest age of first marriage, and the highest rate of children born out-of-wedlock. The early pronatalist aspirations of the Swedish government have been spectacularly unsuccessful, as Sweden continues to have one of the world's lowest birthrates and smallest average family sizes.
