In this book, open adoption practitioner Jim Gritter examines all the ways in which birthparents are marginalized. He provides a glimpse of birthparents' emotional roller coaster ride as they struggle with grief, ambivalence, and regret. Most importantly, he makes the case that if adoption exists to benefit children, then adopted children are best served when birthparents and adoptive parents work together.

The Law Of The Lifegivers written by Claude Brodeur and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-12-07 with Social Science categories.

African societies are gifted with a rich creativity, often expressed in intimate corporeal terms. For the Yaka people of southwestern Congo, such manifestations can have individual, social, or even cosmic significance. The Law of the Lifegivers investigates the importance among the Yaka of body and space in their daily life, exercise of power, and initiatic traditions. Through this analysis, Devisch and Brodeur show that body, desire, and symbol are intertwined, so that bodily expression can act as sensuous and powerful symbol. The domestication of passion and the institutionalizing of a subject are all expressed in bodily terms, particularly during initiations; the ethical order of law rests on many bodily symbols, including the importance of maternal and paternal lifegivers. The authors vividly describe the different life-giving or life-threatening roles which function in this society, such as sorcerer, diviner, therapist, and chief, as well as the funeral drama which shapes the passage to the afterlife with the ancestors, as experienced by the dying subject and his community. Through their dialogue and correspondence, Devisch and Brodeur (an anthropologist and a psychoanalyst, respectively) bring together two, sometimes conflicting, intellectual approaches. They aim to unravel a truth which is freed, as much as possible, from the presumption that only the West possesses the knowledge of objective discourse and science. Through the interaction, the authors reveal the semantic threads, located at the very heart of the most vital, life-giving processes, which weave the fabric of the practice and thought of a riveting, passionate Africa.

LifeGivers Apologetics equips Christian women with the knowledge and skills they need in order to share evidences supporting the truth claims of her Christian faith. As a Christian apologist and researcher pursuing doctoral studies in apologetics, Tricia has mined numerous sources to bring the reader current and relevant philosophical, scientific, archaeological and historical information that addresses the most common issues arising in conversations with unbelievers. Specifically, the book explains good reasons for believing that truth is objective, that God is more than an imaginary friend conjured by weak-minded people who need an emotional crutch, that the rational person can and should believe in the possibility of miracles, that the New Testament is a trustworthy document, and that in the New Testament Jesus Christ not only claimed to be God, but also proved that He was God. Tricia also contends that as God-designed nurturers and relational beings, women bring to apologetics conversations an intimacy and warmth that opens doors to discussions about the deepest concerns of unbelievers and struggling Christians. To assist women in navigating conversations, she shares basic communication skills, many of which she learned in her years as a registered nurse. At the end of the book, the gospel message is clearly explained so that the reader can know how to tell someone exactly how to trust Jesus as Savior. Endnotes at the back of the book provide information on a wealth of resources the reader can access to further enhance learning. LifeGivers Apologetics is a must-have resource that every Christian woman should keep on her bookshelf as a ready reference.

All of our relationships, no matter how messy, present us with a choice. In every relationship we can either be a life giver or a life taker. We can either pour out life into our relationships, regardless of the other person, or we can desperately cling to and aim to control our earthly relationships in hopes of gaining the joy and peace we crave. In this 4-week Bible study, Lara Williams teaches us how we as Christ-followers can be life givers in our relationships. Using the acronym L-I-F-E, Lara leads the reader through Scripture looking at practical steps necessary to becoming a life giver. Because in Christ, we've been set free to pour life into our relationships, regardless of how messy they may be.

Progress In Self Psychology V 19 written by Mark J. Gehrie and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-05-13 with Psychology categories.

The contributors to Explorations in Self Psychology, volume 19 of the Progress in Self Psychology series, wrestle with two interrelated questions at the nexus of contemporary discussions of technique: How "authentic" and relationally invested should the self psychologically informed analyst be, and what role should self-disclosure play in the treatment process? The responses to these questions embrace the full range of clinical possibilities. Dudley and Walker argue that empathically based interpretation precludes self-disclosure whereas Miller argues in favor of authentic self-expression and against the self psychologist's frustrating attempt to "decenter" from frustration or anger. Consideration of the utility of a consistently empathic stance continues with Weisel-Barth's clinical presentation and the discussions that it elicits about management of her patient's primary destructiveness. Lenoff's critical rereading of Kohut's "Examination of the Relationship Between Mode of Observation and Theory" and Rieveschl & Cowan's "Selfhood and the Dance of Empathy" deepen still further a contemporary perspective on the nature (and advisability) of a consistently empathic stance in the face of interactive and enactive treatment challenges. Other timely self-psychological explorations examine the twinship selfobject experience and homosexuality; self-psychological work with adolescents; and Neville Symington's theory of narcissism. Contributions to applied analysis explore topics as diverse as an exchange of dreams between John Adams and Benjamin Rush; Mann's Death in Venice; the films of Ingmar Bergman; psychotherapy of the elderly; and disabilities in the sensory-motor integration in children. And Volume 19 concludes with Constance Goldberg's candid and enlightening reminiscence of Heinz Kohut, "a very complex man with whom to be in a relationship."
