The atlas of the Light and Specular Microscopy of the Cornea, particularly of the corneal endothelium presents photographs of healthy and pathological corneas, as well as corneas prepared for grafting. Photographs are taken from donor or patient’s corneas. The first part section of the atlas shows healthy corneas and its particular layers: the epithelium (superficial and basal cells, subepithelial nerve plexus), stroma and keratocytes, and the endothelium. Blood vessels or palisades of Vogt in limbus are shown as well. The second part section that shows corneas processed for grafting is focused focuses on the endothelial layer. Main causes of exclusion of corneas from grafting, such as the presence of dead cells, polymeghatism, pleomorphism, cornea guttata or stromal scars have been shown. The third part section of the atlas shows corneas before and after storage in tissue cultures or hypothermic conditions with the aim to assess its suitability of for tissue for grafting. The last final section contains photographs of pathological corneal explants

Reflecting microscopy of implanted artificial lenses in a novel method of examination for adequate postoperative examination and follow-up of the large group of patients operated on for cataract. The demands made on the technical equipment of the ophthalmologist are low, in most cases the slit lamp that is routinely available will suffice. This is a guide to the technique of reflecting microscopy, and to demonstrate both normal findings and inflammations by means of examples and overview statistics.

In Vivo Confocal Microscopy in Eye Disease is a comprehensive new text that covers the latest advances in the field of in vivo confocal imaging. It presents a detailed overview of the basic anatomy of the different part of the cornea, conjunctiva and adnexal structures. It discusses the use of in vivo confocal microscopy in a range of clinical applications including the diagnosis of infective keratitis, corneal dystrophies, cornea nerves, conjunctival diseases and their differentiating features. Numerous confocal images, clinical pictures, other paraclinical images and histopathology slides of different ocular pathologies are examined and presented throughout the text. This book systematically reviews the use of confocal imaging in basic science of ocular tissues to the diagnosis of eye disease assembled in a single volume. It provides an up to date resource with an in depth review of scientific literature relating to both the clinical and research application of in vivo confocal microscopy in eye disease. The book ends with a discussion on non-ocular application of in vivo confocal microscopy and future developments including other emerging imaging technologies. Noninvasive Diagnostic Techniques in Ophthalmology explores the special noninvasive tools developed to function as diagnostic indicators and to further our understanding of ocular function. The volume's focus is on new development in instrumentation and techniques for studying the cornea, lens, retina, vitreous, and aqueous dynamics; whereby special attention is given to how each technique has improved our understanding of basic processes and diagnostic capability. Theoretical aspects, possible sources of error, current problems and limitations, safety evaluation, and future applications and directions are considered. Topics examined include ophthalmic image processing; magnetic resonance imaging of the eye and orbit; diagnostic ocular ultrasound; corneal topography; holographic contour analysis of the cornea; wide field and color specular microscopy; use of the Fourier transform method for statistical evaluation of corneal endothelial morphology; confocal microscopy; in vivo corneal redox fluorometry; evaluation of cataract function with the Scheimp-flug camera; fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy of the crystallin lens; in vivo uses of quasi-elastic light scattering; fundus reflectometry; and clinical visual psychophysics measurements. The book offers discussions of fractal analysis of human retinal blood vessel patterns, scanning laser tomography of the living human eye, fundus imaging and diagnostic screening for public health, and digital image processing for ophthalmology, as well as a detailed appendix comprising additional topics and sources.
