This new, considerably expanded edition covers the fundamentals of linear and nonlinear functional analysis, including distribution theory, harmonic analysis, differential geometry, calculus of variations, and degree theory. Numerous applications are included, especially to linear and nonlinear partial differential equations and to numerical analysis. All the basic theorems are provided with complete and detailed proofs. The author has added more than 450 pages of new material; added more than 210 problems; the solutions to all of the problems will be made available on an accompanying website; added two entirely new chapters, one on locally convex spaces and distribution theory and the other on the Fourier transform and Calderón–Zygmund singular integral operators; and enlarged and split the chapter on the “great theorems” of nonlinear functional analysis into two chapters, one on the calculus of variations and the other on Brouwer’s theorem, Brouwer’s degree, and Leray–Schauder’s degree. Ideal for both teaching and self-study, Linear and Nonlinear Functional Analysis with Applications, Second Edition is intended for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics, university professors, and researchers. It is also an ideal basis for several courses on linear or nonlinear functional analysis.

Nonlinear Functional Analysis With Applications To Combustion Theory written by Kazuaki Taira and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-14 with Mathematics categories.

Explore the fascinating intersection of mathematics and combustion theory in this comprehensive monograph, inspired by the pioneering work of N. N. Semenov and D. A. Frank-Kamenetskii. Delving into the nonlinear functional analytic approach, this book examines semilinear elliptic boundary value problems governed by the Arrhenius equation and Newton's law of heat exchange. Key topics include: Detailed analysis of boundary conditions, including isothermal (Dirichlet) and adiabatic (Neumann) cases. Critical insights into ignition and extinction phenomena in stable steady temperature profiles, linked to the Frank-Kamenetskii parameter. Sufficient conditions for multiple positive solutions, revealing the S-shaped bifurcation curves of these problems. Designed for researchers and advanced students, this monograph provides a deep understanding of nonlinear functional analysis and elliptic boundary value problems through their application to combustion and chemical reactor models. Featuring detailed illustrations, clearly labeled figures, and tables, this book ensures clarity and enhances comprehension of complex concepts. Whether you are exploring combustion theory, functional analysis, or applied mathematics, this text offers profound insights and a thorough mathematical foundation.

Navier Stokes Equations And Nonlinear Functional Analysis written by Roger Temam and has been published by SIAM this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-01-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This second edition, like the first, attempts to arrive as simply as possible at some central problems in the Navier-Stokes equations in the following areas: existence, uniqueness, and regularity of solutions in space dimensions two and three; large time behavior of solutions and attractors; and numerical analysis of the Navier-Stokes equations. Since publication of the first edition of these lectures in 1983, there has been extensive research in the area of inertial manifolds for Navier-Stokes equations. These developments are addressed in a new section devoted entirely to inertial manifolds. Inertial manifolds were first introduced under this name in 1985 and, since then, have been systematically studied for partial differential equations of the Navier-Stokes type. Inertial manifolds are a global version of central manifolds. When they exist they encompass the complete dynamics of a system, reducing the dynamics of an infinite system to that of a smooth, finite-dimensional one called the inertial system. Although the theory of inertial manifolds for Navier-Stokes equations is not complete at this time, there is already a very interesting and significant set of results which deserves to be known, in the hope that it will stimulate further research in this area. These results are reported in this edition.

This advanced level textbook is devoted to the description of systems which show ordered magnetic phases. A wide selection of topics is covered, including a detailed treatment of the mean-field approximation as the main paradigm for the phenomenological description of phase transitions. The book discusses the properties of low-dimensional systems and uses Green's functions extensively after a useful mathematical introduction. A thorough presentation of the RKKY and related models of indirect exchange is also featured, and a chapter on surface magnetism, rarely found in other textbooks, adds to the uniqueness of this book. For the second edition, three new chapters have been added, namely on magnetic anisotropy, on coherent magnon states and on local moments. Additionally, the chapter on itinerant magnetism has been enlarged by including a section on paramagnons.

Diagram Genus Generators And Applications written by Alexander Stoimenow and has been published by CRC Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-09-03 with Mathematics categories.

In knot theory, diagrams of a given canonical genus can be described by means of a finite number of patterns ("generators"). Diagram Genus, Generators and Applications presents a self-contained account of the canonical genus: the genus of knot diagrams. The author explores recent research on the combinatorial theory of knots and supplies proofs for a number of theorems. The book begins with an introduction to the origin of knot tables and the background details, including diagrams, surfaces, and invariants. It then derives a new description of generators using Hirasawa’s algorithm and extends this description to push the compilation of knot generators one genus further to complete their classification for genus 4. Subsequent chapters cover applications of the genus 4 classification, including the braid index, polynomial invariants, hyperbolic volume, and Vassiliev invariants. The final chapter presents further research related to generators, which helps readers see applications of generators in a broader context.
