This collection of thirteen essays brings together Italian and American scholars to present a cooperative analysis of the Italian short story, beginning in the fourteenth century with Giovanni Boccaccio and arriving at the twentieth century with Alberto Moravia and Anna Maria Ortese. Throughout the book, the contributors carefully and intentionally unpack and explain the development of the short story genre and demonstrate the breadth of themes – cultural, historical and linguistic – detailed in these narratives. Dedicated to a genre “devoted to lightness and flexibility, as well as quickness, exactitude, visibility and multiplicity,” this collection paints a careful and exacting picture of an important part of both Italian and literary history.

The Shadow Lines Is A Highly Innovative, Complex And Celebrated Novel Of Amitav Ghosh. Published In 1988, It Received The Prestigious Sahitya Academy Award In The Following Year. Not Only Literary Critics But Also Some Noted Litterateurs Have Acclaimed It For What It Has Been Able To Achieve As A Work Of Art. Its Focus Is A Fact Of History, The Post-Partition Scenario Of Violence; But Its Overall Form Is A Subtle Interweaving Of Fact, Fiction And Reminiscence. It Is A Novel In Which Amitav Ghosh Has Been Able To Realise His Artistic Conception Through An Art Form, Which Is Cohesive. However, It Remains Somewhat Inaccessible To Some Readers; They Are, Particularly, Mystified By Its Non-Linear Mode. This Volume Of Critical Essays On The Shadow Lines Is Being Presented In The Hope That It Will Enable The Reader To Gain An Insight Into The Meaning And Structure Of The Novel. In The First Part Of The Book, The Contributors Bring Out The Various Aspects/Elements Of The Novel. The Second Part Has Essays, Which Look At The Novel From Some Current Critical Perspectives Feminist, Post-Colonial And Historicist But The Emphasis Of These Essays Is Upon Practice And Not Theory. The Idea Is That The Reader Learns About A Specific Approach By Seeing It Applied To The The Shadow Lines. The Third Part Has A Single But Significant Essay The Shadow Lines In Context Which Relates The Novel To Ghosh S Other Works, Both Fiction And Non-Fiction. Though The Book Is Primarily Addressed To The Student, It Is Hoped That It Will Interest The Common Discernible Reader As Well.

Disputing The Deluge written by Darko Suvin and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-02 with Literary Criticism categories.

For over 50 years, Darko Suvin has set the agenda for science fiction studies through his innovative linking of scifi to utopian studies, formalist and leftist critical theory, and his broader engagement with what he terms "political epistemology." Disputing the Deluge joins a rapidly growing renewal of critical interest in Suvin's work on scifi and utopianism by bringing together in a single volume 24 of Suvin's most significant interventions in the field from the 21st century, with an Introduction by editor Hugh O'Connell and a new preface by the author. Beginning with writings from the early 2000s that investigate the function of literary genres and reconsider the relationship between science fiction and fantasy, the essays collected here--each a brilliant example of engaged thought--highlight the value of scifi for grappling with the key events and transformations of recent years. Suvin's interrogations show how speculative fiction has responded to 9/11, the global war on terror, the 2008 economic collapse, and the rise of conservative populism, along with contemporary critical utopian analyses of the Capitalocene, the climate crisis, COVID-19, and the decline of democracy. By bringing together Suvin's essays all in one place, this collection allows new generations of students and scholars to engage directly with his work and its continuing importance and timeliness.

Music Dance written by Patrizia Veroli and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-10 with Music categories.

Music-Dance explores the identity of choreomusical work, its complex authorship and its modes of reception as well as the cognitive processes involved in the reception of dance performance. Scholars of dance and music analyse the ways in which a musical score changes its prescriptive status when it becomes part of a choreographic project, the encounter between sound and motion on stage, and the intersection of listening and seeing. As well as being of interest to musicologists and choreologists considering issues such as notation, multimedia and the analysis of performance, this volume will appeal to scholars interested in applied research in the fields of cognition and neuroscience. The line-up of authors comprises representative figures of today’s choreomusicology, dance historians, scholars of twentieth-century composition and specialists in cognitive science and performance studies. Among the topics covered are multimedia and the analysis of performance; the notational practice of choreographers and the parallel attempts of composers to find a graphic representation for musical gestures; and the experience of dance as a paradigm for a multimodal perception, which is investigated in terms of how the association of sound and movement triggers emotions and specific forms of cognition.

Postmodern Traces And Recent Hindi Novels written by Veronica Ghirardi and has been published by Vernon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-06 with Literary Criticism categories.

Postmodernism is a notoriously elusive concept and still the object of critical debates among scholars across a range of different disciplines. In literature, in particular, these debates are complicated by “postmodern” styles emanating from outside the concept’s Western origins. By analyzing contemporary Hindi novels, and drawing on both Western and Hindi literary criticism, "Postmodern Traces and Recent Hindi Novels" aims to understand some of the manifestations of postmodernism in contemporary Hindi fiction, including ways the latter might challenge the traditional parameters of postmodern literature. This book is essential reading for scholars and students specializing in South Asian studies and both postcolonial and comparative literature. It will also interest the general reader curious to know more about one of the less explored areas of world literature.
