Lines, Rhymes and other Whimsical Poems is a collection of poems from many of the memories of the authors childhood. Other poems are based on any noun the authors students, in an effort to stump the teacher, would give her to write a quick impromptu poem. Poems about nature and its wonder are also included to rest the mind and quiet the soul. Gail Winters memories of years and times gone by, fun little ditties to encourage young writers, and nature at it loveliest make Lines, Rhymes and Whimsical Poems an enjoyable read for young and old.

"A short and very readable study of the effect and importance of rhyme, with examples from the whole range of English poetry. The book discusses the function of rhyme as an artistic resource that enables the poet to increase the impact of his verse by increasing his rhythm, by stressing particular words and by giving definition to the form. These effects are illustrated from a wide variety of poets, ranging from Spenser and Shakespeare to T.S. Eliot and Ogden Nash."--Jacket.

Rhyming poetry done well, can be very pleasing to the ear, and fun to read. And when the poetry tells a story one can relate to in some way, then the poet has succeeded in communicating with his reader.I painstakingly create my poetry using true-rhymes, consistent rhyming and syllabic conventions, and uniform accents. Each and every poem I've included in this book has an easy cadence to it, which makes it enjoyable to read.I have written an introduction to each of my poems, revealing why I wrote the poem, the inspiration behind the poem, and some context to aid the reader in unpacking as much meaning as possible from every line of poetry. And finally, I've included some complimentary feedback from a few of my on-line poetry colleagues, as well as some quotes by famous and not so famous personalities, in the hopes that the comments and quotes will add pleasure to your reading experience.

My Rhyming Poetry Scroll, from start to finish as it does unroll, shows my poems in their variety, all in order chronologically, from when I was age twenty-seven to about sixty, from days of mental stability through bipolarism (manic-depression) back to mental stability. I hope on you it makes a good impression. My poems run from being serious to being lighthearted and humorous. They reveal most of my thinking through years of experience and reading. I've written about what's bad or quite great, things important to my heart, soul and mind (pate). I write about rhyme and its absence from today's verse, and write about bad psychiatrists who could not be worse. Some poems are couplets, one's an hour long, but all are in rhyme, and some approach song. My scroll shows my development, from where I was to where I went, my life's sweetness and bitterness, my strength and feebleness, my simplicity and complexity, my criticism and whimsy, my sarcasm and sympathy, my opinion and philosophy, my love and my hate, culminating in what I have written of late. In my scroll you will find my joy, sadness, thankfulness, ire, and as I write here now, I hope you like my work, entire.
