Turner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-01-10 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This book presents a framework for the linguistic analysis of speech and a computer program to process the results of this analysis. The model of description for the linguistic analysis is that known as ‘scale-and-category’ grammar. It is particularly suited for a study of how people use their language, and especially for a sociologically-oriented study of linguistic behaviour. By incorporating a concept of ‘delicacy’, it enables the investigator to vary, according to his particular interests, the amount of detail he enters into at various points in the description. The present authors have made use of this facility and discuss the special interests, sociological and psychological, that influenced their choice of detail. The computer program analyzes the grammatical structures written in a linear notation. A second version has been written which allows easy modification to handle a variety of grammatical schemes, and the program has application to the processing of the analysis of sequential behaviour in general, especially where there are complex relations between the units analyzed.

The Oxford Handbook Of Linguistic Analysis written by Bernd Heine and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This handbook compares the main analytic frameworks and methods of contemporary linguistics. It offers a unique overview of linguistic theory, revealing the common concerns of competing approaches. By showing their current and potential applications it provides the means by which linguists and others can judge what are the most useful models for the task in hand. Distinguished scholars from all over the world explain the rationale and aims of over thirty explanatory approaches to the description, analysis, and understanding of language. Each chapter considers the main goals of the model; the relation it proposes from between lexicon, syntax, semantics, pragmatics, and phonology; the way it defines the interactions between cognition and grammar; what it counts as evidence; and how it explains linguistic change and structure. The Oxford Handbook of Linguistic Analysis offers an indispensable guide for everyone researching any aspect of language including those in linguistics, comparative philology, cognitive science, developmental philology, cognitive science, developmental psychology, computational science, and artificial intelligence. This second edition has been updated to include seven new chapters looking at linguistic units in language acquisition, conversation analysis, neurolinguistics, experimental phonetics, phonological analysis, experimental semantics, and distributional typology.

Taking an accessible and cross-linguistic approach, Understanding Child Language Acquisition introduces readers to the most important research on child language acquisition over the last fifty years, as well as to some of the most influential theories in the field. Rather than just describing what children can do at different ages Rowland explains why these research findings are important and what they tell us about how children acquire language. Key features include: Cross-linguistic analysis of how language acquisition differs between languages A chapter on how multilingual children acquire several languages at once Exercises to test comprehension Chapters organised around key questions that summarise the critical issues posed by researchers in the field, with summaries at the end Further reading suggestions to broaden understanding of the subject With its particular focus on outlining key similarities and differences across languages and what this cross-linguistic variation means for our ideas about language acquisition, Understanding Child Language Acquisition forms a comprehensive introduction to the subject for students of linguistics, psychology and speech and language therapy. Students and instructors will benefit from the comprehensive companion website that includes a students’ section featuring interactive comprehension exercises, extension activities, chapter recaps and answers to the exercises within the book. Material for instructors includes sample essay questions, answers to the extension activities for students and a Powerpoint including all the figures from the book. www.routledge.com/cw/rowland

Handbook Of Applied Psycholinguistics written by S. Rosenberg and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-02-04 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

First published in 1982. The chapters of this handbook contain critical integrative reviews of research and theory in the major areas of the field of applied psycholinguistics, the field in which applied problems of language and communicative functioning and development are approached from the standpoint of basic research and theory in psycholinguistics and related areas of cognitive psychology. The book was designed to meet the needs of researchers, practitioners and graduate students from such disciplines as education (including special education), language learning, linguistics, neurology, psychiatry, psychology, and speech and hearing for such reviews, although the state of research in an area and a desire to stress research and theory in substantive areas resulted in a decision not to include chapters on the measurement of linguistic maturity, language intervention, the language of the learning disabled child, language and environmental deprivation, language and mania, language and senile dementia, and the design of written and oral information and computer command language.

"Here is a complete guide to effective procedures for performing phonological analyses. In this valuable work, one of North America's most eminent linguists distills years of research and experience to provide procedures that are complete, flexible, adaptive, cumulative, and normative. Dr. Ingram shows step by step how to assess both normal and delayed phonological development with this practical system for analyzing phonological data regardless of the method by which it is collected. Going far beyond texts that focus on just a single aspect of analysis, he sets forth explicit experimental procedures that can be used to determine normal and delayed patterns of phonological in four distinct areas: phonetic analysis, analysis of homonymy, substitution analysis, [and] phonological process analysis. To illustrate procedures, Dr. Ingram used the specifics of actual case studies and provides model data analysis forms for each analytic method ... The text also provides a glossary of basic terms at the start of each chapter, practice pages to help the reader become familiar with new procedures, and frequent restatements and summaries of procedural steps. For researchers, this guide offers an unprecedented methodology for facilitating comparisons across studies. It is highly recommended as an assigned text for courses in child phonology and articulation disorders"--Back cover.
