The explosion of information technology has led to substantial growth of web-accessible linguistic data in terms of quantity, diversity and complexity. These resources become even more useful when interlinked with each other to generate network effects. The general trend of providing data online is thus accompanied by newly developing methodologies to interconnect linguistic data and metadata. This includes linguistic data collections, general-purpose knowledge bases (e.g., the DBpedia, a machine-readable edition of the Wikipedia), and repositories with specific information about languages, linguistic categories and phenomena. The Linked Data paradigm provides a framework for interoperability and access management, and thereby allows to integrate information from such a diverse set of resources. The contributions assembled in this volume illustrate the band-width of applications of the Linked Data paradigm for representative types of language resources. They cover lexical-semantic resources, annotated corpora, typological databases as well as terminology and metadata repositories. The book includes representative applications from diverse fields, ranging from academic linguistics (e.g., typology and corpus linguistics) over applied linguistics (e.g., lexicography and translation studies) to technical applications (in computational linguistics, Natural Language Processing and information technology). This volume accompanies the Workshop on Linked Data in Linguistics 2012 (LDL-2012) in Frankfurt/M., Germany, organized by the Open Linguistics Working Group (OWLG) of the Open Knowledge Foundation (OKFN). This book is the first part of a two book series. It is based on a combination of Finance and IT. More precisely, it applies the concept of Linked Data (hence LD), which originates from the IT landscape, to the specifics of the financial world. LD is a new concept for efficient handling of data, which could be used for dealing with a complex data set and data structures, as well as Big Data. The focus of this book is on the adoption of LD and its application within financial business processes. First, LD is briefly explained and framed in the context of the financial services domain. Second, modeling the determinants of LD adoption needed a clear statement over its advantages and disadvantages, amongst others within the financial domain. Despite the high interest towards the LD concept, no such overview existed before this work. Fourth, the model on LD adoption is applied to business (financial) reporting, illustrated with the XBRL case. Finally, semi-structured interviews with financial experts reconfirm and extend the findings. The main potentials are described in detail.

This volume includes both rigorous asymptotic results on the inevitability of random knotting and linking, and Monte Carlo simulations of knot probability at small lengths. The statistical mechanics and topology of surfaces on the d-dimensional simple cubic lattice are investigated. The energy of knots is studied both analytically and numerically. Vassiliev invariants are investigated and used in random knot simulations. A mutation scheme which leaves the Jones polynomial unaltered is described. Applications include the investigation of RNA secondary structure using Vassiliev invariants, and the direct experimental measurement of DNA knot probability as a function of salt concentration in random cyclization experiments on linear DNA molecules.
