Esta Historia de la Literatura Vasca, no es una historia más, sino otra historia diferente. Diferente porque, desde que Michelena publicara en 1960 la suya, el salto hacia adelante dado por los escritores vascos ha sido enorme, y porque los estudios de Filología Vasca constituidos en la UPV, así como la rica labor editorial han hecho que a través de múltiples estudios y colecciones diversas el panorama literario haya variado. Por otro lado, Urquizu ha sido uno de los que con más constancia ha colaborado en el estudio y la edición de textos inéditos y de antologías de autores nada, poco o mal conocidos, por lo que esta historia da una visión nueva y otra de la literatura vasca. Se descubre en ella que no ha sido un campo cultivado exclusivamente por clérigos, aunque tampoco faltan, y que su vida a través de los diversos géneros es como la realidad, no plana, sino plural y poliédrica.

This volume raises questions about why oral celebrations of language receive so little attention in published literary histories when they are simultaneously recognized as fundamental to our understanding of literature.
