Au sein de la littérature portugaise, certaines oeuvres présentent des éléments sémio-graphiques qui participent à leur création selon un mouvement de construction/déconstruction, portant le texte vers une dimension autre que celle strictement verbale. Cette étude se centre sur ce genre de texte dénommé "écriture fragmentale". Au vu de ce mode de construction, le problème se pose de la façon suivante : de quelle manière se construit le sens d'un point de vue onomasiologique et d'un point de vue sémasiologique dans un corpus d'œuvres littéraires portugaises contemporaines ? L'analyse des indices énonciatifs du sujet met en évidence la manifestation d'un "je" fragmenté, clivé (onomasiologie), qui se projette en dehors du centre au sein d'une profusion de voix indéfinies (Partie I). La caractérisation de l'écriture fragmentale et l'étude des configurations de la fragmentation graphique et textuelle du corpus conduisent à la mise en avant de textes dont le système se rapproche d'un réseau (Partie II). Les textes fragmentaux correspondent à des "œuvres ouvertes" et invitent le lecteur à participer à la création même de l'œuvre selon différents parcours interprétatifs (sémasiologie) (Partie III). La richesse et la plasticité de la langue portugaise et la complexité des textes littéraires portugais contemporains motivent une réflexion épistémologique qui, tout au long de cette étude, se fait selon un mouvement de va-et-vient entre les textes du corpus et les instruments théoriques linguistiques ouverts au dialogue interdisciplinaire.

The human condition in rural, provincial locations is once again gaining status as a subject of European ‘high fiction’, after several decades in which it was dismissed on aesthetic and ideological grounds. This volume is one of the first attempts to investigate perspectives on local cultures, values and languages both systematically and in a European context. It does so by examining the works of a variety of authors, including Hugo Claus, Llamazares, Bergounioux and Millet, Buffalino and Consolo, and also several Soviet authors, who paint a grim picture of a collectivized – and thus ossified – rurality. How do these themes relate to the ongoing trend of globalization? How do these works, which are often experimental, connect – in their form, topics, language and ideological subtext – to the traditional rural or regional genres?
