The final volume in the Handbook for Liturgical Studies series, Volume V: Liturgical Time and Space contains the concluding material for an integral study of the liturgy. It opens with a preliminary notion of time and space, before discussing in detail three types of liturgical celebrations on which time and space have a direct and particular bearing. Los problemas que se nos plantean, a la hora de cantar en las celebraciones, son de muy diversa índole, pero casi siempre nos encontramos con un denominador común a toda la problemática: los que tienen que animar las celebraciones tienen muy buena voluntad, pero carecen, en la mayoría de los casos, de una sólida formación litúrgica y musical. Estas páginas pretenden precisamente servir de guión y ayuda a los animadores del canto de la asamblea, para que, como recomienda la Sacrosanctum Concilium (n. 115), sepan lo que se traen entre manos, sean conscientes de su gran responsabilidad ante la asamblea y, sobre todo, se sientan animados ante una tarea tan noble y digna de toda alabanza y ante un servicio pastoral tan urgente y necesario como es la animación litúrgica y musical de nuestras asambleas, en las que nos reunimos para expresar y vivir gozosamente la fe común de la Iglesia y celebrarla festivamente a través del canto. Es hora de subrayar los aciertos litúrgicos que la reforma conciliar nos ha traído en cuanto al uso de la lengua vernácula, la participación activa de los fieles, el impulso de la asamblea cristiana, la comprensión de la misma liturgia, etc.: pero también es hora de tomar conciencia de los errores cometidos, a fin de avanzar y progresar en nuestra formación litúrgica y musical, vivir más profundamente nuestra condición de bautizados, saborear la riqueza de la Liturgia y, sobre todo, hacer que el canto litúrgico sea un canto confesante de la fe de la Iglesia.
