Abstract: This book is a personal guide to overcoming compulsive eating, binging, and bulimia. It describes the author's recovery from her obsession with food and the self-destructive behavior associated with this "eating disorder". The steps that she used to overcome this illness were: 1) recognizing the problem, 2) realizing that weight was not the problem, 3) becoming motivated to live binge-free, 4) believing that she could live binge-free, 5) developing a healthy attitude toward food, 6) changing her belief systems, 7) exploring her feelings, 8) loving and forgiving herself and others, and 9) her spiritual awakening. Although the author overcame this illness without the use of therapy, she recommends the use of "eating disorder clinics", therapists, counselors, Overeaters Anonymous, and support groups. Also listed are organizations, suggested readings, and workshops on dieting, eating disorders, body awareness, personal growth, and meditation.

In Binge Free, I present the story of my descent to the depths of hell with binge-eating disorder, my journey back to humanity and the various mental techniques and lifestyle changes that helped me to overcome 25 years of isolation, depression and binging insanity. While this killer sickness caused me to lose my humanity, dignity and hope for life, I managed to escape and, through hard work and determination, have found restoration, peace and happiness. If there be any reason for me to still live, I hope that it's to reach-out to others who suffer and share with them the tools that helped me to recover, and have kept me binge free for ten years. My message is that you, too, can attain this freedom. Binge eating is a sickness that lives in the mind and uses our own thoughts, feelings and memories to entice and trap us. Therefore, to achieve long-term recovery, it is imperative to have a suitable arsenal of mental strategies to counterattack, expose the lies and say NO to binging. Together with a series of lifestyle changes that I suggest, this book gives you the goods straight from the experience of a food addict that survived the assault of binge-eating disorder. I hold nothing back and give you practical tips and tools that you can put to use right away so that you can learn to vanquish the binge eating monster once and for all.

This book focuses on the essentials of nutrition, offering clear guidelines for healthy eating and dispelling many of the myths promoted by the diet industry. A concise and informative review of the most popular diet programs helps set the record straight on what's behind all of those promotional campaigns to which adolescent (and younger) girls are regularly exposed. The goal here is to help parents understand the kinds of pressure their daughters are under and to provide them with the necessary knowledge to work with their daughters - rather than against them - in forming a strong, positive, and clear sense of self.

This book is a much-requested follow-up to Brain over Binge (2011), in which the author shared how she used a basic understanding of neuroscientific principles to overcome bulimia. In this sequel and companion volume, with the help of fellow specialists and authors Amy Johnson, Ph.D., Katherine Thomson, Ph.D., and others, Kathryn Hansen lays out those same principles--and many more--in a self-help format that educates and empowers binge eaters to pursue recovery efficiently and effectively. Although recovery is not the same for everyone, this book posits that there are only two essential goals that must be met to end bulimia and binge eating disorder: (1) learning to dismiss urges to binge and (2) learning to eat adequately. As you work toward these goals with a streamlined focus, you will discover your own strength, develop your own insights, and put into practice ideas and behaviors that work uniquely and authentically for you. The Brain over Binge Recovery Guide is comprehensive in its length and scope, but utterly simple in its approach: You will read and use only what you need--continuing on in the book if you feel you need more information and guidance; putting it down and moving on with your life when you feel you're ready--so that you can start living binge-free as quickly and easily as possible.
