Roy Mark does it again! The follow-on book to his excellent FIXIN' TO DIE RAG again focuses on the men and times of Charlie Company of the 1st Cavalry Division's 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion during the Vietnam War. However, where FIXIN' TO DIE RAG mainly covered ten bad days between March and September 1970, LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION steps back and widens its focus. The narratives in LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION are about people rather than events. The central figures are Sterling Cody, Ozzie Daniels, and Phil Seefeld. The three are young Warrant Officers who are assigned to Charlie Company during a particularly hectic, dangerous, and important portion of the war. To help the reader better understand these men, Roy Mark has done an outstanding job of describing many of the formative events-some serious, some frivolous and some hazardous-in the lives of these men and their families. Particularly enriching are the chapters devoted to stories of Sterling Cody's father, brother, and certain moments marking his march to manhood. LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION follows Sterling Cody into the Drug Wars of South America where he transitions into the more modern and advanced UH 60 Black Hawk helicopters. After retiring, Lieutenant Colonel Sterling was recalled to active duty for one more mission: Iraqi Freedom. LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION, interesting reading though it is, does not neglect to describe some of the terrifying misfortunes attendant to any war-the close calls, the physical wounds, the mental anguish, the deaths of good men. Roy Mark is at his best in these passages. LIVE BY CHANCE, LOVE BY CHOICE, KILL BY PROFESSION is a book that will fascinate and sometimes amuse the reader. It's a very hard book to put down.

This book, written by four internationally renowned bioethicists and first published in 2000, was the first systematic treatment of the fundamental ethical issues underlying the application of genetic technologies to human beings. Probing the implications of the remarkable advances in genetics, the authors ask how should these affect our understanding of distributive justice, equality of opportunity, the rights and obligations as parents, the meaning of disability, and the role of the concept of human nature in ethical theory and practice. The book offers a historical context to contemporary debate over the use of these technologies by examining the eugenics movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The questions raised in this book will be of interest to any reflective reader concerned about science and society and the rapid development of biotechnology, as well as to professionals in such areas as philosophy, bioethics, medical ethics, health management, law, and political science.

Inspirational, self-help book with expressions that remind us to slow down our life pace, once in awhile to discover our potential opportunities. The book leads with the premise that every person has a purpose, a talent and a life experience that is so unique & special that no one else on this planet that has ever lived or is alive today is their equal. The hope is that the expressions in the book will serve as "easy to remember reminders" to slow the reader's life down, once in a while or wake them up when they're sleepwalking (going from one place to another without noticing your surroundings) so they can experience the joys of life more, better and longer.

Social Mobility Chance Or Choice written by Sonia Blandford and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-09-27 with Social Science categories.

Social Mobility: Chance or Choice?, a sequel to `Born to Fail? Social Mobility, a Working Class View' (October 2017), sets out the current chances and choices available for those considered by the establishment to need social mobility. Revisiting mutuality, Sonia Blandford asks whether we care enough as a society by considering the issues, solutions and impact to the education and social issues that push against the chance or choice of social mobility. Citing the views from interviews with education and business leaders, Social Mobility: Chance or Choice? reflects on the changing skillsets and capacities of workers required by employers, business and industry and the inescapable conclusion that the skillsets and capacities will continue to change in ways that are almost impossible for us to predict. In these contexts, we must question whether the traditional acme and 'recognised journey' of educational achievement – maximising university entrance – is still relevant or useful for working-class children and young people and children facing disadvantage. Apprenticeships, at their best, can offer an updated and forward-facing solution to the providing choice for working-class and all children and young people. Despite current policy developments to encourage meaningful apprenticeships, apprenticeship programmes are experiencing challenges. Social Mobility: Chance or Choice? argues that applied learning and work-based learning should be more accessible and available to all children and young people. If we are serious about unleashing the talent of all children and young people, regardless of their background, challenges or needs, we must consider new and innovative approaches to post-14 education. If we are to unleash the potential of all children and young people, the role of Further Education needs to be respected and understood. Quality Further Education and training in partnership with business is a credible answer to social mobility. Further Education is an underused but ideally placed sector to develop meaningful change for working-class young people, providing real chances and choices. Beginning with Leaders - professionals, practitioners, parents or carers, and members of society have a shared responsibility to ensure that all children and young people have a right to chance or choice and support these opportunities. Building a society that is truly inclusive.
