The author of Opening the Gifts shares essays inspired by nature and the life lessons she learned while pausing to reflect during rough points in her life. During a tropical storm. In the aftermath of chemotherapy. Amid marital discord. These are among the times author Charlene Costanzo found comfort, joy, hope, and healing in Sanibel Island’s botanical garden. She also learned a few things. Eventually she amassed a collection of wisdom from these experiences and now, she shares these insights with you. If you look closely, plants sprout with willpower and bloom with determination. Drawing from the beautiful nature of trees and flowers, Charlene crafts garden-inspired messages from her experiences with healing and understanding. Inside, find quotes, reflections, and even bonus material: Pen-and-ink line drawings with illustrations of flowers, leaves, and garden plants Charlene’s Twelve Gifts resource and lessons learned in the garden An epilogue from two other locales: Sedona, Arizona, and St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands Each gift-from-the-garden message asks readers to imagine walking in the author’s sandals—or at least by her side—and try to perceive as she did. The journey is sometimes whimsical, often idealistic, and always encouraging. Charlene hopes that this book will ultimately enrich and empower readers as they journey through life in their own shoes. Perfect for readers of Anne Morrow Lindbergh Praise for The Twelve Gifts from the Garden “With the wonder of a child, the introspection of a mature woman, and the wisdom of the elders, Charlene Costanzo inspires us to discover the hidden treasures of nature.” —Gloria Gaynor, Grammy Award–winning singer and author of I Will Survive: The Book and We Will Survive: True Stories of Encouragement, Inspiration, and the Power of Song “This book is a feast, a dream, a wondrous adventure.” —Sherry Richert Belul, founder of Simply Celebrate and author of Say It Now “A joyful read bursting with the beauty of nature and reflections of lessons learned in life . . . . Most mornings, reading her reflections gives me goosebumps because they are like having a cup of coffee with God . . . . This is a wonderful book to gift yourself and others!” —Gina La Benz, author of Anchor Moments: Hope, Healing, and Forgiveness

Many spiritual memoirs walk through a house closing doors and windows until the author settles comfortably into one room, whereas Living with Spirit opens door after door and window after window, letting in all different kinds of light. Alice Peck, author of Bread, Body, Spirit I m honored that Peggy has shared my teachings, and in such a good way, in this book. Her writing is graceful, flowing, and easy to read and understand. Brooke Medicine Eagle, author of Buffalo Woman Comes Singing Have you ever wondered what really happened to the flower children and activists of the 1960s? The popular media would have us believe that they all outgrew their alternative lifestyle and became stockbrokers. Not true. Living with Spirit, Journey of a Flower Child, describes an ongoing wave of transformation and spiritual awakening that has continued to grow exponentially to the present day, as we approach the prophesied year 2012. Peggy Kornegger s journey, from flower child to feminist activist to spiritual seeker, has given her a unique perspective on this phenomenon. Her experiences swimming with wild dolphins and whales in the ocean, traveling to sacred sites such as Tulum and Machu Picchu, and studying with Maya elders in Guatemala have all contributed to her metamorphosis. Living with spirit is the thread that runs throughout the book how she has experienced it and how everyone can. Peggy Kornegger is a writer, editor, and lightworker who lives in the Boston area. Her writing has appeared in a wide variety of spiritual, feminist, and political publications, including Spirit of Change, Bay Windows, Sojourner, Second Wave, Sinister Wisdom, Plexus, and the anthology Reinventing Anarchy. Remembering Lee County written by Prudy Taylor Board and has been published by Arcadia Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-12-06 with History categories.

In this charming retrospective, Lee County native Prudy Taylor Board writes with love, respect, and wry humor as she reveals the true history of Lee County, its communities and some of its most intriguing and prominent pioneers. For example: In 1884, Fort Myers comprised 139 acres at the original site of the town that was platted into a working community. But the burgeoning town that had grown to include about 50 families did not have a newspaper. So when the opportunity to ?kidnap? an editor and his press presented itself, Henry L. Roan, captain of the schooner Lily White, wasted no time. Although a paradise for tourists today, Sanibel was originally noted for its prolific agriculture. By 1896, farmers were shipping a thousand crates of tomatoes a week during their growing season. A few years later, crops included eggplant, beets, squash, green peppers, cucumbers and beans. Unfortunately, the torrential tides of salt water accompanying a disastrous hurricane in 1921 destroyed the groves and arid farms that marked the finish to Sanibel's agricultural prominence. With these delightful historical vignettes, Board presents an interesting and fascinating history of the three cities that presently make up Lee County, Florida. Locals, visitors and newcomers alike are sure to enjoy Board's witty and causal style, and will view the area with a renewed appreciation for its rich past.
