Our storybooks are full of lizards, but we usually call them something else—dragons, serpents, dinosaurs or monsters. These stories vastly increase their size, bestow wings upon them, make them exhale flame, and endow them with magical powers. Lizards stimulate the human imagination unlike most other animals, despite generally being small, soundless, and hidden from sight in burrows, treetops, and crevices. They can blend into a vast range of environments, from rocky coasts to deserts to rain forests. Their fluid motion can make us think of water, while their curvilinear form suggests vegetation. Their stillness suggests death, while their sudden arousal is like resurrection. This delightful book gives lizards their due, demonstrating how the story of lizards is interwoven with the history of human imagination. Boria Sax considers the lizard as a sensual being—a symbol, a myth, a product of evolution and an aesthetic form. He describes the diversity of lizards and traces the representation of the reptile in cultures including those of pre-conquest Australia, the Quiché Maya, Mughal India, and central Africa. Illustrated throughout with beguiling images, Lizard is a unique and often surprising introduction to a popular but little-understood reptile.

Lizard Rock written by Jen-Tzaw Huang and has been published by Gg Prime Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-04-18 with Hiking stories categories.

This book has three stories that do not have any connection each other. The first story described a baseball fan whose mind was always on how to get rid of rotten public officers, two councilmen who did not want to serve the public interest. He wished to cast a ballet to eliminate the rotten councilmen at the election just like double play at the baseball play. The second story was about that you help people eventually it will benefit to yourself. A young lawyer helped an old man to retrieve a hat that was blown off by a gusty wind during hiking. Because of this help, the old men invited him to home for a dinner. There he found the girl whom he had been looking for since they met at a concert. Thus a gusty wind blew them together. Then he helped a lady to get a parking place in a heavy rain. Later he found out the lady was his adversary and he was mad. But the lady appreciated his help and she wanted to make up as a collaborator. So he felt the heavy rain made them good as a partner. The third story was a speculation of creating Lizard Rock in Wildwood Park at Thousand Oaks of California. Once upon a time, there were many lizard villages in Wildwood Park. The one of the strongest lizard, Zack who was very passionate for welfare of lizards wanted to eliminate a snake whose color and stripes were exactly same as the rock surface in the village. So many lizards were eaten by this snake while sunbathed at rock surface because they could not see the snake present. Zack led the lizards to paint the rock surface to white in order to distinguish snake from the surface. But the snake could change his color exactly white color too. So Zack took a Jimson weed which is very poison to grew big and strong. He then killed the snake and continued grew big and strong like a monster. At the same time he became arrogant and greedy and forgot his original ideal of serving the lizards and his fiancée. After he remembered his early life, he wanted his fiancée to take Jimson weed to grow big as he was so that they could live together. When he saw his fiancée became big after taking Jimson weed, he was so excited and accidently killed her. He was mad and blamed her death to the village. So he destroyed the village and killed all lizards. Just before jumping off a canyon, he was changed to a rock that people named it as Lizard Rock. The idea running through three stories is that to help others and to serve the public are mutual inclusive. If people think to serve the public just like to help people, then the service will be very efficient. And if to help people will benefit to you eventually, then more people will very eager to help others. This will easily build a harmonious society. It will be a disaster to the society when the supreme leader of the society does not have this idea.
