Economy Of The Unlost written by Anne Carson and has been published by Princeton University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-04-11 with Literary Criticism categories.

The ancient Greek lyric poet Simonides of Keos was the first poet in the Western tradition to take money for poetic composition. From this starting point, Anne Carson launches an exploration, poetic in its own right, of the idea of poetic economy. She offers a reading of certain of Simonides' texts and aligns these with writings of the modern Romanian poet Paul Celan, a Jew and survivor of the Holocaust, whose "economies" of language are notorious. Asking such questions as, What is lost when words are wasted? and Who profits when words are saved? Carson reveals the two poets' striking commonalities. In Carson's view Simonides and Celan share a similar mentality or disposition toward the world, language and the work of the poet. Economy of the Unlost begins by showing how each of the two poets stands in a state of alienation between two worlds. In Simonides' case, the gift economy of fifth-century b.c. Greece was giving way to one based on money and commodities, while Celan's life spanned pre- and post-Holocaust worlds, and he himself, writing in German, became estranged from his native language. Carson goes on to consider various aspects of the two poets' techniques for coming to grips with the invisible through the visible world. A focus on the genre of the epitaph grants insights into the kinds of exchange the poets envision between the living and the dead. Assessing the impact on Simonidean composition of the material fact of inscription on stone, Carson suggests that a need for brevity influenced the exactitude and clarity of Simonides' style, and proposes a comparison with Celan's interest in the "negative design" of printmaking: both poets, though in different ways, employ a kind of negative image making, cutting away all that is superfluous. This book's juxtaposition of the two poets illuminates their differences--Simonides' fundamental faith in the power of the word, Celan's ultimate despair--as well as their similarities; it provides fertile ground for the virtuosic interplay of Carson's scholarship and her poetic sensibility.

The Comrade From Milan written by Rossana Rossanda and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-27 with Political Science categories.

In this much-lauded memoir, acclaimed for its blend of literary elegance and political passion, Rossana Rossanda, a legendary figure on the Italian left, reflects on a life of radical commitment. Active as a communist militant in the Italian Resistance against fascism during World War Two, Rossanda rose rapidly in its aftermath, becoming editor of the Communist Party weekly paper and a member of parliament. Initially a party loyalist, she was critical of the party’s conservatism in the face of new radical movements and moved into opposition during the late 1960s. The breach widened after she and others publicly opposed the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, and were expelled in 1969. She went on to help found the influential paper il manifesto, which remains the most critical daily in Berlusconi's Italy. Her unique experience enables her to reconstruct that period with flair and authority. She paints a revealing picture of fascism, communism, post-war reconstruction and the revolts that shook Europe in the 1960s. In The Comrade from Milan, one of the most influential intellectuals of the European Left relives the storms of the twentieth century. Both cool-headed and precise, Rossanda provides a rare insight into what it once meant to be politically engaged.

Published with the exhibition at the Galleria Nazionale d?Arte Moderna e Contemporanea in Rome, this book brings together history, art, and industry in a single object: the vase. The vase has been the subject and object of a narrative in which artists and designers have portrayed, photographed, and reinvented it. It has filled roles as both an art object, with its intrinsic value, and an industrial object with the same functions and no less artistic value. Curated by Spanish designer Martí Guixé, the exhibition offers an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between artisanship, design, and contemporary art, and compare visual languages that are more similar than we may think. 00Exhibition: Galleria Nazionale d?Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, Rome, Italy (16.07.-29.09.2019).

Danilo Dolci written by Abele Longo and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-07-09 with Education categories.

The book presents the multi-faceted opus of Danilo Dolci within the framework of Environmental Education, focusing on his work as a grassroots community educator, nonviolent activist and poet. It illustrates Dolci’s ‘Reciprocal Maieutic Approach’, a dialectic method of inquiry that can be defined as a process of collective exploration, taking as point of departure the experience, culture and intuition of individuals, ultimately directed towards the development of citizenship. Sessions led by Dolci in Sicily from the 1950s to the 1990s gave rise to the development of action plans that aimed to empower individuals, transform communities and, extending far beyond this, towards the planning and implementation of changes that would have a dramatic impact at a global and planetary level.

The exhibition aims to allow visitors to avail themselves of a selection of masterpieces from some of the world's leading museums to compare and contrast the artistic careers of two of the greatest luminaries of the Italian Renaissance ? Antonio Allegri known as Correggio (1489-1534) and Francesco Mazzola known as Parmigianino (1503-40). The formidable talent of these two artists alone placed the city of Parma in the early 16th century on an equal footing with the peninsula's other great art capitals, Rome, Florence and Venice. 0 0Correggio only travelled to Parma when he was already at the height of his career, in the late 1510s, but he was to remain in the city for the rest of his life. Some twenty of his paintings, covering his entire career, have been selected to underscore the extraordinary emotive force and expressive range that the artist put not only into his religious works but also into his mythological paintings, which were to have such a huge impact on later artists, ranging from the Carracci brothers to Watteau and even to Picasso. 0 0The exhibition 'Correggio e Parmigianino. Arte a Parma nel Ciquecento' ('Correggio and Parmigianino. Art in Parma during the 16th century') hosts such unquestioned masterpieces as the Barrymore Madonna from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Portrait of a Lady from the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Martyrdom of Four Saints from the Galleria Nazionale in Parma, the Noli Me Tangere from the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the School of Love from the National Gallery in London and the Danaë from Rome's Galleria Borghese. 00Exhibition: Scuderie del Quirinale, Rome, Italy (12.03.-26.06.2016).
