Bertrand Russell's writings on logic, metaphysics, philosophy of language and epistemology are among the most influential of the twentieth century. Logic and Knowledge presents Russell's very best and most important work on these topics in a single volume, which by placing philosophical logic at its core was of monumental importance in shaping the path of analytical philosophy. It includes classics such as 'On Denoting', one of the founding pieces of philosophy of the twentieth century as well as chapters on logical atomism, a term coined by Russell himself to describe his view that the world consists in a plurality of independent entities, which by coming together form facts. Along with other essays on fundamental philosophical problems including the logic of relations, universals and particulars, and propositions, Logic and Knowledge shows why Russell remains one of the most important philosophers of the last century. This Routledge Classics edition includes a new Foreword by Graham Stevens.

This Festschrift volume, published in honor of Michael Gelfond on the occasion of his 65th birthday, contains a collection of papers written by his closest friends and colleagues. Several of these papers were presented during the Symposium on Constructive Mathematics in Computer Science, held in Lexington, KY, USA on October 25-26, 2010. The 27 scientific papers included in the book focus on answer set programming. The papers are organized in sections named “Foundations: ASP and Theories of LP, KR, and NMR”, “ASP and Dynamic Domains”, and “ASP – Applications and Tools”.

Knowledge And Reality written by Colin McGinn and has been published by Clarendon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999-01-28 with Philosophy categories.

Knowledge and Reality brings together a selection of Colin McGinn's philosophical essays from the 1970s to the 1990s, whose unifying theme is the relation between the mind and the world. The essays range over a set of prominent topics in contemporary philosophy, including the analysis of knowledge, the a priori, necessity, possible worlds, realism, mental representation, appearance and reality, and colour. McGinn has written a new postscript to each essay, placing it in its philosophical context by sketching the background against which it was written, explaining its relations to other notable work, and offering his current reflections on the topic. The volume thus traces the development of McGinn's ideas and their role in some central philosophical debates. Seen together the essays offer a many-sided defence of realism, while emphasizing the epistemological price that realism exacts.

The purpose of the Reasoning Web Summer School is to disseminate recent advances on reasoning techniques and related issues that are of particular interest to Semantic Web and Linked Data applications. It is primarily intended for postgraduate students, postdocs, young researchers, and senior researchers wishing to deepen their knowledge. As in the previous years, lectures in the summer school were given by a distinguished group of expert lecturers. The broad theme of this year's summer school was “Declarative Artificial Intelligence: Knowledge, Rules, Logic." The following eight lectures were presented during the school: Declarative AI for Industry: Methods, Applications, Trends; Ontologies vs Constraints; Termination of Reasoning; Compact Query Rewritings for Ontology Based Query Answering; Graph Queries and Description Logics; Controlled Query Evaluation in Description Logic Ontologies; Learning from Neural Networks with Queries and Counter Examples; and Proof-Theoretic Approaches in Logical Argumentation.

This volume contains some lecture notes of the 12th Reasoning Web Summer School (RW 2016), held in Aberdeen, UK, in September 2016. In 2016, the theme of the school was “Logical Foundation of Knowledge Graph Construction and Query Answering”. The notion of knowledge graph has become popular since Google started to use it to improve its search engine in 2012. Inspired by the success of Google, knowledge graphs are gaining momentum in the World Wide Web arena. Recent years have witnessed increasing industrial take-ups by other Internet giants, including Facebook's Open Graph and Microsoft's Satori. The aim of the lecture note is to provide a logical foundation for constructing and querying knowledge graphs. Our journey starts from the introduction of Knowledge Graph as well as its history, and the construction of knowledge graphs by considering both explicit and implicit author intentions. The book will then cover various topics, including how to revise and reuseontologies (schema of knowledge graphs) in a safe way, how to combine navigational queries with basic pattern matching queries for knowledge graph, how to setup a environment to do experiments on knowledge graphs, how to deal with inconsistencies and fuzziness in ontologies and knowledge graphs, and how to combine machine learning and machine reasoning for knowledge graphs.

Information modeling and knowledge bases are important technologies for academic and industrial research that goes beyond the traditional borders of information systems and computer science. The amount and complexity of information to be dealt with grows continually, as do the levels of abstraction and the size of databases. This book presents the proceedings of the 30th International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases (EJC2020), due to be held in Hamburg, Germany on 8 and 9 June 2020, but instead held as a virtual conference on the same dates due to the Corona-virus pandemic restrictions. The conference provides a research forum for the exchange of scientific results and experiences, and brings together experts from different areas of computer science and other disciplines with a common interest in information modeling and knowledge bases. The subject touches on many disciplines, with philosophy and logic, cognitive science, knowledge management, linguistics and management science, as well as the emerging fields of data science and machine learning, all being relevant areas. The 23 reviewed, selected, and upgraded contributions included here are the result of presentations, comments, and discussions from the conference, and reflect the themes of the conference sessions: learning and linguistics; systems and processes; data and knowledge representation; models and interfaces; formalizations and reasoning; models and modeling; machine learning; models and programming; environment and predictions; modeling emotion; and social networks. The book provides an overview of current research and applications, and will be of interest to all those working in the field.
