Buku ini merupakan karya kedua para alumni “Penjara Suci”, Darularafah. Yang pertama judulnya “BERANI HIDUP TAK TAKUT MATI”. Buku ini tersusun dari kumpulan tulisan para mantan penghuni “Penjara Suci”, yang telah menghabiskan banyak waktunya untuk menempa diri dalam satu upaya membentuk pribadi yang pantas dikatakan sebagai manusia yang bergelar muttaqin. Salah satu jalan yang ditempuh untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut adalah mempelajari maḥfūẓāt sebagai sandaran berperilaku. Maḥfūẓāt merupakan satu kata yang tidak asing bagi seorang penghuni penjara suci alias santri. Ia dipelajari dan dipahami begitu saja oleh para santri tanpa mengkritisinya. Walaupun mereka sering membongkar habis kata-kata Arab lainnya, baik secara ṣarfīy maupun naḥwy, namun kata maḥfūẓāt sendiri hanya dipahami sebagai kata-kata mutiara atau peribahasa Arab yang dapat dijadikan sebagai falsafah hidup. Padahal secara terminologi maḥfūẓāt merupakan derifasi dari kata ḥafiẓa – yaḥfaẓu (menghafal) – ḥifẓan (hafalan) - - - maḥfūẓan/maḥfūẓatan) yang bermakna sesuatu yang dihafal, dan bentuk jamaknya adalah maḥfūẓātan. Oleh sebab itu, tidaklah mengherankan jika dalam praktikinya di dayah/pesantren diwajibkan bagi santri untuk menghafalkan setiap kata mutiara yang telah diajarkan kepada santri, “tafham am laa, al-muhim iḥfaẓ” [paham atau enggak paham, yang penting kamu harus hafal]. Begitulah kira-kira pesan yang melekat dalam pikiran santri. Di pesantren modern, sebelum booming hafalan Alquran, santri selain diwajibkan mendalami ayat-ayat Alquran dan hadis, juga diwajibkan mengenal bahkan menghafal bait-bait yang dipetik dari ayat-ayat Alquran, hadis-hadis Nabi, dan syair-syair Arab. Hafalan tersebut akhirnya lebih dikenal dengan sebutan “Maḥfūẓāt”, padahal lebih tepatnya disebut Qaul al-Hikmah (Kata Bijak), atau dalam bahasa inggrisnya wisdom Namun demikian, menariknya ternyata setelah sekian lama meninggalkan “Penjara Suci”, mereka bukan saja pandai mengaplikasikannya dalam mengarungi kehidupan, melampaui itu mereka juga sangat lihai menjelaskan kata-kata mutiara yang pernah dipelajari dengan mengaitkannya dengan pengalaman mereka dan fenomena kehidupan yang dilihatnnya. Oleh sebab itu, buku ini layak dijadikan sebagai satu bacaan inspiratif yang penuh dengan filosofi islami oleh setiap orang yang mendambakan petuah-petuah hidup agar terbebas dari permainan sia-sia kehidupan dunia. Untuk lebih mudah memahami buku ini, setiap tulisannya disertai dengan satu karikatur, yang merupakan karya seorang alumi penjara suci juga. Selanjutnya struktur kumpulan tulisannya dibagi kepada empat bagian. Bagian pertama diberi judul “Ilmu Adalah Cahaya, bagian kedua diberi judul “Diam Adalah Kunci Damai.” Sementara bagian ketiga dan keempat masing-masing diberi judul “Sukses itu Berbagi” dan “Memaknai Sunnatullah.”
