LOGISTICS SYSTEMS ANALYSIS Logistics, the subject of this monograph, is narrowly defmed here to be the science that studies how to convey items from production to consumption in cost effective ways; some subjects of interest to logistics managers such as reliability and maintenance are not addressed. The theories that are covered, on the other hand, apply to generic items that can represent people, as well as freight; they should be of interest to passenger transportation firms and agencies. Besides'transportation, a logistics system usually includes other activities such as inventory control, handling, and sorting, which must be carefully coordinated if cost-effectiveness is to be achieved. Yet, both in theory and practice these activities are often examined separately. The operations research field includes sub-fields with specialized journals in inventory control, transportation, warehousing, etc ... Over the years, these sub-fields have evolved into disciplines that have developed their own specialized conventions and jargon, as a result making it increasingly difficult for researchers to communicate across disciplinary boundaries. Something similar happens in practice when firms become compartmentalized; if responsibilities for different logistical activities are allocated to different managers, decisions in the best interests of the firm are difficult (if not impossible) to make.

Implementation Of Urban Logistics Systems written by Raphael Preindl and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-14 with Business & Economics categories.

Concept components summarized under the umbrella term ‘urban logistics’ has become a strategic priority for many public and private players in recent years. However, many urban logistics undertakings fail to be put into practice and are eventually terminated for various reasons, which can be considered implementation barriers that exist in practice. While research on urban logistics is proliferating, the implementation of urban logistics systems has been insufficiently addressed. Thus, the dissertation is concerned with the implementation of urban logistics systems. Raphael Preindl investigates the implementation process from a holistic perspective and follows the design science research methodology, based on an eclectic theoretical approach. Next to a contingency analysis of the conceptual design of urban logistics systems and the identification of success factors, the study develops an adaptable implementation concept that is specifically tailored to the context of urban logistics and thereby clearly goes beyond a purely operational approach.

Logistics Systems Analysis written by Carlos Daganzo and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Business & Economics categories.

This book examines logistics systems in an integrated way. Its goal is to describe and show how to find rational structures for logistics systems considering all the relevant aspects. Building on an understanding of the simplest logistical system with only one origin and one destination, the book treats problems with many origins and one destination, many destinations and one origin, and many origins and many destinations; this is done for systems with and without transshipments. The solutions and methodologies presented in the book are particularly helpful in instances where detailed data are not available and when time is of the essence.

Logistic systems constitute one of the cornerstones in the design and control of production systems and the modelling of supply chains. They are key to a number of industries, and courses teaching logistics systems planning and control are becoming more widespread. Introduction to Logistics Systems Planning and Control is the first book to present the quantitative methods necessary for logistics systems management at a level suitable for students of engineering, computer science and management science. It features introductory material on business logistics and covers sales forecasting, inventory management, warehouse design and management, and transport planning and control. Presents a balanced treatment of quantitative methods for logistics systems planning, organization and control. Each topic is illustrated with real examples. Features a number of case studies that show how the methods can be applied to complex logistics problems. Each chapter features an annotated bibliography of key references. Assumes only a basic knowledge of operations researc h. Supported by a Website featuring exercises and teaching material. Introduction to Logistics Systems Planning and Control provides an accessible self-contained introduction to the subject for researchers, practitioners, and students of logistics and supply chain management, in both academia and industry.
