अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी भारत के उन दुर्लभ नेताओं में हैं, जिनको सर्वस्वीकार्य जन नायक कहा जा सकता है। यह पुस्तक एक जननायक और असाधारण वक्ता के रूप में उनकी अपूर्व वैचारिक ऊर्जा के सुलभ पुंज के रूप में आपके सामने है। इसी वैचारिक विलक्षणता के कारण अटलजी पहली बार चुनकर लोकसभा पहुंचते ही चर्चा में आ गए। जब पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू ने उन्हें विदेश नीति पर बोलने का मौका दिया तो अटलजी के तर्कों से पंडित जी इतने प्रभावित हुए कि उन्होंने कहा था, 'वाजपेयी जी के अंदर देश का नेतृत्व करने के सारे गुण मौजूद हैं।' अटलजी 11 भाषाओं के जानकार और संसार भर के तमाम विषयों के मर्मज्ञ थे। उनकी सराहना पंडित जवाहरलाल नेहरू से लेकर आज तक के सभी जन नायकों ने की है। बिना कटुता उत्पन्न किये अपने तर्कों से किसी को भी सहमत करना उनकी ही क्षमता थी कि भारत के लोकतांत्रिक इतिहास में सर्वाधिक पार्टियों की सहभागितावाली गठबंधन सरकार को बिना झंझट उन्होंने संचालित किया। यह पुस्तक मैंने मूलतः अटलजी के आरंभिक भाषणों से लेकर समस्त प्रमुख भाषणों को प्रस्तुत करने की भावना से तैयार की है। इसमें विभिन्न परिस्थितियों पर उनके कुल 72 भाषण हैं। इन भाषणों को प्रस्तुत करते समय यह ध्यान रखा गया हैं कि सभी प्रमुख मुद्दों पर उनके विचारों से पाठक अवगत हो सकें। मेरी सोच है कि अब तक अटलजी पर प्रकाशित किसी भी पुस्तक में एक साथ इतनी दुर्लभ सामग सामग्री एक साथ नहीं मिलेगी
