The Collected Longer Poems written by Kenneth Rexroth and has been published by New Directions Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1968 with Literary Criticism categories.

This is a companion volume to the Collected Shorter Poems of Kenneth Rexroth which was published in 1967. All of the long poems written over the past forty years are included: The Homestead Called Damascus (1920-25), A Prolegomenon to a Theodicy (1925-27), The Phoenix and the Tortoise (1940-44), The Dragon and the Unicorn (1944-50) and The Heart's Garden, The Garden's Heart (1967-68). As we read the long poems together and in sequence we can see that Rexroth is a philosophical poet of consequence who offers us a comprehensive system of values based on the realization of the ethical mysticism of universal responsibility. He is concerned, above all, with process: the movement from the Dual to the Other. "I have tried," Rexroth writes," to embody in verse the belief that the only valid conservation of value lies in the assumption of unlimited liability, the supernatural identification of the self with the tragic unity of creative process. I hope I have made it clear that the self does not do this by an act of will, by sheer assertion. He who would save his life must lose it."

Long Life written by Mary Oliver and has been published by Da Capo Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-03-02 with Literary Collections categories.

"The gift of Oliver's poetry is that she communicates the beauty she finds in the world and makes it unforgettable" ( Miami Herald ). This has never been truer than in Long Life, a luminous collection of seventeen essays and ten poems. With the grace and precision that are the hallmarks of her work, Oliver shows us how writing "is a way of offering praise to the world" and suggests we see her poems as "little alleluias." Whether describing a goosefish stranded at low tide, the feeling of being baptized by the mist from a whale's blowhole, or the "connection between soul and landscape," Oliver invites readers to find themselves and their experiences at the center of her world. In Long Life she also speaks of poets and writers: Wordsworth's "whirlwind" of "beauty and strangeness"; Hawthorne's "sweet-tempered" side; and Emerson's belief that "a man's inclination, once awakened to it, would be to turn all the heavy sails of his life to a moral purpose." With consummate craftsmanship, Mary Oliver has created a breathtaking volume sure to add to her reputation as "one of our very best poets" (New York Times Book Review ).

New Selected Poems 1970 1985 written by Jerome Rothenberg and has been published by New Directions Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986 with Literary Criticism categories.

Acclaimed poet and translator, editor of such ground-breaking journals and anthologies as Alcheringa and Technicians of the Sacred, pioneer in the fields of performance poetry and ethnopoetics, Jerome Rothenberg is a literary radical and a major force in American poetry. Gathered here in his New Selected Poems 1970-1985 are pivotal poems from four previous New Directions collections, Poland/1931 (1974), A Seneca Journal (1978), Vienna Blood (1980), and That Dada Strain (1983). Rothenberg describes his new selection as "an attempt to isolate in the work of the last fifteen years (and a little more) the thread of a single long poem or sequence [in which] figures and voice's without context in the earlier books...find a location and a shape." Open-ended, explorative, and exuberantly and irreverently epic, the sequence ends with two new and previously uncollected poems, "15 Flower World Variations" and "Visions of Jesus."

He left (or was left by) a number of girlfriends and he fathered five children along the way. He was apt to raise a bit of a ruckus at poetry readings and other public events. No one could be sure what he might do next except that he would write poetry and get published and that it would be widely read.".

One Hundred More Poems From The Chinese Love And The Turning Year written by and has been published by New Directions Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1970-01-17 with Poetry categories.

An assemblage of delicate Chinese verse which delicately explore the worlds of love, nature, and meditation. Love and the Turning Year includes a selection from the Yueh Fu—folk songs from the Six Dynasties Period (fourth-fifth centuries A.D.). Most of the songs are simple, erotic lyrics. Some are attributed to legendary courtesans, while others may have been sung at harvest festivals or marriage celebrations. In addition to the folk songs, Rexroth offers a wide sampling of Chinese verse: works by 60 different poets, from the third century to our own time. Rexroth always translated Chinese poetry—as he said—“solely to please myself.” And he created, with remarkable success, English versions which stand as poems in their own right.

All The Live Long Day written by J. V. Brummels and has been published by Stephen F. Austin University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Poetry categories.

JV Brummels's newest collection, All the Live-Long Day, continues the legacy of a strong-voiced, strong-armed poetry. As the title suggests in a mocking, self-effacement, these are the poems of a man who has been working, perhaps not on the railroad, but in the classroom, in the fields, with his horses and his cattle. Brummels's poetry is simultaneously poised on humor and drop-dead seriousness, where "an education's learning / how much to let slip / and when to let go." The "punchline" for a long working life is "I've made a life flirting with regret / For all my bitching I'm the man / I want to be." Who is that, then? The man who admits that he's a smart ass, a "whiskerless schoolmarm / trying to be / a thirty-foot hard-twist snake / of an arena rope, " "a black cat in a back alley / behind a bar" before he tends to the business of branding. And yet, for all that hard word and all that hard self-appraisal, the persona is able to "think machine and horsepower / and horse / I smell cow on the breeze."
