Este libro da conta da importancia dos servizos no proceso de cambio no sector agrario ao longo das últimas décadas. Debulla o modo en que, ao longo das últimas décadas, os profesionais do agro e da gandería en Galicia van botando man de diversos servizos para incorporar innovacións, adaptarse a un mercado e un cadro regulador cada vez máis complexos e así poder manter a súa competitividade no mercado, coidar do medio ambiente e proporcionar bos alimentos, sen deixar de aspirar a unha mellor calidade de vida. O fío condutor do libro é a idea de que a expansión dos servizos no sector agrario reflicte a resposta adaptativa dun sector que vive una profunda crise e que precisa responder ás dinámicas globais da agroindustrialización e a liberalización dos mercados, aos novos retos da política agraria e rural, aos retos da sustentabilidade así como á evolución das propias estruturas agrarias nas últimas décadas. A través dun percorrido polos principais cambios do contexto económico, institucional e tecnolóxico que afectan ao sector agrario galego, a autora presenta ao público unha análise do cambio de modelo agrario galego no contexto da Economía de Servizos e do Coñecemento. A terciarización do sector agrario defínese pola crecente importancia e presenza dos servizos en torno ás actividades propias das explotacións agrarias. Máis alá da contratación de servizos especializados de maquinaria para as tarefas en campo, que xa conta cunha notable tradición no agro galego, este estudo mostra e explica a crecente intervención de axentes externos que aportan coñecemento técnico especializado para asesorar aos agricultores e gandeiros na innovación dos procesos produtivos agrarios e, nalgúns casos, substituílos. Afonda no estudo do papel desenvolvido polas cooperativas agrarias e outras asociacións propias do sector, incluídos os propios sindicatos agrarios. Estes axentes revélanse como fundamentais na prestación de servizos, pola súa proximidade (física e cognitiva) e pola súa capacidade de conseguir economías de escala. Igualmente, poderían sentar as bases, a través de novos servizos, para un novo modelo agrario sustentable que aproveite plenamente as potencialidades do rural galego.
