No es lo mismo una común antología del terror que saber elegir las obras maestras del género para conformar una selección que dignamente se llame Terror de antología. La decisión de qué relatos incluir en libros con este título no es muy difícil cuando uno ha sabido beber en las fuentes primigenias. Al abocarme a elaborar una obra en la cual compartir los textos que más han influido en mí a la vez que como lector, como escritor, empecé por buscar los relatos que con una sola leída se me quedaron para siempre en la memoria y en el ánimo. Confieso que de algunos no conocía al autor y de otros confundía al verdadero escritor con otros de estilo similar; dudé acerca de qué material incluir finalmente, ya que había relatos que no eran propiamente de terror, sino de otros géneros, como el de ciencia ficción, que a su modo también sabe generarnos miedo. De otros textos no conocía el título o lo recordaba mal. Pero al fin pude hallar las piezas que encajaban perfectamente en el conjunto, es decir, los cuentos ya clásicos y reconocidos como obras maestras, nada difíciles de ubicar, a los que pude añadir otros menos famosos pero de igual calidad creativa. El material reunido dio para dos volúmenes, los cuales les presento deseando que los gocen tanto como yo al darles forma y pulirlos para un mayor disfrute por parte del público latinoamericano. El primer tomo de Terror de antología incluye 12 relatos surgidos de las plumas de autores tan destacados como Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu, Lovecraft, Maupassant y Ambrose Bierce, entre otros. No podía faltar “La Cámara de los Tapices”, una obra maestra de Walter Scott, o “La mano disecada”, de Maupassant. Adentrarse en estos relatos adaptados para todo mundo, pero principalmente dirigidos a los jóvenes lectores, es alentar al miedo a que se apodere de nuestros sentidos, en una experiencia estética, intelectual y emocional única.
