El monte mediterráneo constituye un paisaje y un ecosistema de gran valor ambiental, paisajístico, ecológico, económico, científico y didáctico. En este trabajo se han integrado dos componentes de este paisaje (vegetación y fauna) de manera que constituye un estudio biogeográfico en sentido estricto. Todo ello localizado en un espacio de gran importancia natural, incluido en la Red Natura 2000 bajo la figura de L.I.C. (Lugar de Interés Comunitario): los Montes de Toledo. Se ha trabajado en su sector oriental, próximo a un Parque Nacional representativo de los paisajes del monte mediterráneo: Cabañeros y colindante, nuestro territorio, con otro Parque Nacional con el que comparte relevantes movimientos faunísticos: Las Tablas de Daimiel. Destaca en este trabajo la elaborada cartografía de detalle y, especialmente, un exhaustivo muestrario de inventarios de vegetación de las principales formaciones vegetales del monte mediterráneo.

El presente volumen recoge el texto En los montes de la Mancha. Crónica de caza, que conjuntamente con la pequeña obra teatral El drama de Valle-Alegre, editó en el año 1879 la Librería de Fernando Fe (con sedes en Madrid y Sevilla). Ambos textos iban precedidos de una Carta-Prólogo del Excmo. Sr. don Pedro Antonio de Alarcón.El interés de esta nueva edición radica en la presentación de esta crónica de caza que, durante el año 1864, tuvo lugar por tierras manchegas de Ciudad Real: José Navarrete, (1837- ?), poeta y escritor de reconocido prestigio, fue invitado a participar en una montería organizada por notables personalidades de la capital, que gustaban de hacerse compañar por un vate que no sólo entretuviese con sus relatos y poemas las vigilias campestres, sino que luego dejase constancia por escrito de los acontecimientos de aquellas jornadas, para grato recuerdo de sus protagonistas. Durante varias jornadas recorrieron los montes y fincas que aún hoy perviven como cotos de caza, y siguen siendo reconocibles en su toponimia y descripciones.Nuestra edición ha sido magníficamente prologada por todo un especialista, el profesor Antonio Fernández Tomás, quien aparte de ejercer su Cátedra de Derecho Internacional Público desde su facultad en Albacete, es un gran conocedor de las artes cinegéticas y de estas tierras donde se desarrolla la montería. No se recoge el pequeño drama que aparecía en la edición princeps, pero por contra sí se hace una aportación en forma de ilustraciones: una bella colección de imágenes de otras cacerías (más recientes en el tiempo), salidas del objetivo del prestigioso fotógrafo Diego González Ragel (1893 - 1951), gran amante también de las artes de la cacería, y en la que aparecen muchos personajes de su época (el Conde de Yebes, Francisco Landaluce, el Conde de Teba, el escopeta negra Picorroto, el mismo Ragel, etcétera).

The different contributions of this body of work attemp to demonstrate that the concept of diaspora (exile) has acquired a renewed currency among scholars by examining that to be in exile, at least in some way, is to live a disjoint life. Thus, to live in exileor diaspora implies to take up the difficult task of kee-ping one`s dignity and one ́s story, despite the on slaught of a colonial power. The relationship with a past, often through stories of the mother/land or through remembrance and (re)creation, becomes a means of survival. Futhermore, the sense (or absence) of community, and the positioning in language generate an ever more complex and dialogic definition of Canadian and American nationalities and identities.
