Los Territorios Ausentes Missing Territories written by Uriel Quesada and has been published by Arte Publico Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-09-30 with Fiction categories.

In the title story, a man flees his family and homeland, which he “had been leaving for years, as if it were a natural impulse,” abandoning his aging parents for the uncertainty of a homeless camp in Southern California and sexual encounters with strange men. Later, plying the North American highways as a truck driver, Marcos can recreate his story for each new person he meets. The characters in these vivid and often absurd stories deal with bureaucracy and business efficiency, corruption and abuse. Two police officers select their prey, someone who hasn’t committed a crime, but the night spins out of control when one decides he doesn’t want to hurt an innocent boy and instead becomes another victim of his violent partner. A Spanish-speaking university student finds himself arrested and agreeing to exchange certain favors for his release. Acclaimed Costa Rican author Uriel Quesada sketches fresh interpretations of the social, cultural and geographic landscape of the United States. A group of Latin American students at Tulane University plan to disrupt a presentation by Borges, who is guilty of betrayal, absent “from the events that tore apart our people.” A queer antiques dealer in New Orleans goes to jail, not for breaking the law against sodomy in force at the time in Louisiana, but for selling pieces purloined from cemeteries. Containing Quesada’s original Spanish with a rewarding translation by Elaine S. Brooks, this bilingual edition brings the thought-provoking stories of an award-winning writer to an English-speaking audience in the United States.

Viento Vientito Wind Little Wind written by Jorge Argueta and has been published by Arte Publico Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-31 with Juvenile Fiction categories.

“My name is Wind / but everyone knows me / as Little Wind.” In this beautiful, poetic ode to the refreshing but sometimes dangerous force of wind, award-winning children’s book author Jorge Argueta describes—in English, Spanish and Nahuat—the power of air from the perspective of a mischievous youngster. He is born everywhere and can fly all around Mother Earth. Little Wind is swift like a hummingbird, he comes and goes. Zummm, zummm, zummm. “You can’t see me. / You can’t touch me. / But you can feel me.” Some call him the north wind, or draft, breeze, gale, hurricane, tornado, but “I like it better / When they call me Wind, Little Wind.” A Junior Library Guild selection, this book about the wind reflects Argueta’s indigenous roots and his appreciation for the natural world. Felipe Ugalde Alcantara’s gorgeous illustrations depict birds floating on the breeze and trees bent under strong gusts. Containing the English and Spanish text on each page, the entire poem appears at the end in Nahuat, the language of Argueta’s Pipil-Nahua ancestors. The third book in a four-part series about Mother Earth, this is an excellent choice to encourage children to write their own poems about nature and to begin conversations about the interconnected web of life.

Territorialising Space In Latin America written by Michael K. McCall and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-19 with Social Science categories.

The vision of this book is to bring together examples of grounded geographic research carried out in Latin America regarding territorial processes. These encompass a range of histories, processes, strategies and mechanisms, with case studies from ten countries and many regions: struggles to reclaim indigenous lands, conflicts over land/resource/environmental services, competing land claims, urban territorial identities, state power strategies, commercial involvements and others. The case studies included in the book represent a wide diversity of theoretical and methodological framings currently deployed in Latin America to help interpret the patterns and processes through the conceptual lenses of territory, territoriality and territorialization. Interrogating the meanings of territory introduces multiple spatial, socio-cultural and political concepts including space, place and landscape, power, control and governance, and identity and gender.

Biodiversity Of Angola written by Brian J. Huntley and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-20 with Science categories.

This open access multi-authored book presents a 'state of the science' synthesis of knowledge on the biodiversity of Angola, based on sources in peer-reviewed journals, in books and where appropriate, unpublished official reports. The book identifies Angola as one of the most biologically diverse countries in Africa, but notes that its fauna, flora, habitats and the processes that drive the dynamics of its ecosystems are still very poorly researched and documented. This 'state of the science' synthesis is for the use of all students of Angola's biodiversity, and for those responsible for the planning, development and sustainable management of the country's living resources. The volume brings together the results of expeditions and research undertaken in Angola since the late eighteenth century, with emphasis on work conducted in the four decades since Angola's independence in 1975. The individual chapters have been written by leaders in their fields, and reviewed by peers familiar with the region.

Southern Criminology written by Kerry Carrington and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-08 with categories.

Criminology has focused mainly on problems of crime and violence in the large population centres of the Global North to the exclusion of the global countryside, peripheries and antipodes. Southern criminology is an innovative new approach that seeks to correct this bias. This book turns the origin stories of criminology, which simply assumed a global universality, on their head. It draws on a range of case studies to illustrate this point: tracing criminology’s long fascination with dangerous masculinities back to Lombroso’s theory of atavism, itself based on an orientalist interpretation of men of colour from the Global South; uncovering criminology’s colonial legacy, perhaps best exemplified by the over-representation of Indigenous peoples in settler societies drawn into the criminal justice system; analysing the ways in which the sociology of punishment literature has also been based on Northern theories, which assume that forms of penalty roll out from the Global North to the rest of the world; and making the case that the harmful effects of eco-crimes and global warming are impacting more significantly on the Global South. The book also explores how the coloniality of gender shapes patterns of violence in the Global South. Southern criminology is not a new sub-discipline within criminology, but rather a journey toward cognitive justice. It promotes a perspective that aims to invent methods and concepts that bridge global divides and enhance the democratisation of knowledge, more befitting of global criminology in the twenty-first century.
