Sex is the queen of problems in evolutionary biology. Generations of researchers have investigated one of the last remaining evolutionary paradoxes: why sex exists at all. Given that sexual reproduction is costly from an evolutionary point of view, one could wonder why not all animals and plants reproduce asexually. Dozens of contemporary hypotheses attempt to explain the prevalence of sex and its advantages and predict the early extinction of fully asexual lineages. The major theme of this book is: what is the fate of animal and plant groups in which sex is lost? Initial chapters discuss theory behind asexual life: what major disadvantages do asexual groups have to face, what are the genetic and ecological consequences and what does this theory predict for more applied aspects of asexual life, for example in agricultural pests, diseases as well as in cultural crops such as grapes. Cases studies in many animals (focusing on both invertebrates and vertebrates) and plants reveal parallel, but also singularly novel adaptations to the absence of meiosis and syngamy. And last but not least, are asexuals really doomed to early extinction or do genuine ancient asexuals exist? This book assembles contributions from the most important research groups dealing with asexual evolution in eukaryotes. It is a milestone in research on parthenogenesis and will be useful to undergraduate as well as graduate students and to senior researchers in all fields of evolutionary biology, as the paradox of sex remains its queen of problems.

I'm so busy and tired, how can I find time for sex? How can I go from mommy one minute to passionate lover the next? What medicines or natural herbs can I take to improve my libido? At some point in their lives, most women experience a decline in their sexual desire. Yet despite the vast number of books devoted to sex, surprisingly few focus on the problem of low libido. Fewer still offer any practical advice to the woman who has lost her sex drive and longs to find it again. Reclaiming Desire presents the holistic approach that gynecologist Andrew Goldstein and clinical psychologist Marianne Brandon—co-founders of the Sexual Wellness Center in Annapolis, Maryland—use to successfully treat women with low libido. Capitalizing on their combined medical and psychological expertise, they reveal how a complex set of physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual factors—as well as specific life-changing events such as marriage, pregnancy, childbirth, divorce, and menopause—can affect female sex drive. Reading this book, women will come to understand that low libido isn't "all in their heads"—or all in their bodies, for that matter. The problem is real and it's diverse—but it's curable.

The answer to divorce based on satisfying individual sexual hunger for a happy marriage. He says, "My wife doesn't want sex." She says, "My husband doesn't want sex." Myth buster: It has nothing to do with loss of libido Excuses, excuses... Excuses, excuses... We can't have sex now because I'm too tired My back hurts I have a headache I'm going through the change o(Men on pause) I'm not in the mood I have too much on my mind, right now If I'm not going to have an orgasm, then why? I feel bloated and fat I don't want to feel pressured for sex Just not interested, right now Diminishing libido I'm too upset Representing a few of the most popular excuses. Why does my spouse, mate or partner have no interest in sex? What's really going on? Can it be fixed? In this brief book, Dr. Eaton explains Why it's happening How to prevent it What to do about it, if you're already there No psychological mumbo jumbo, because lack of sexual desire or psychology has nothing to do with it. There are two distinct physical types of humans in regard to sex. Dr. Pete explains how to tell the difference, how to find your own type and possible ways to proceed if you've paired up with the opposite type. A real how to book. In the matching of men and women in couples possibly leading to marriage, even though marriage is the leading cause of divorce and the most popular outcry amidst the divorce controversy with voices ringing in the halls of justice and accusations of infidelity and private investigators documenting the marital affairs of cheaters committing acts of adultery, etc, etc, etc... Women are often left wondering why men cheat? The truth of the matter is that it is not as rudimentary as being a men versus women issue at all. Even though the women get much less press than the men, the unfaithful wife is actually much more popular, but is much more stealthy in her approach to conducting her extramarital affairs. Dr. Pete Eaton reveals all in his book, Sex Wise, and tells the truth about relationship problems - especially when related to areas of sexual conduct - unraveling the secret to why men cheat and (even more) why women cheat, and it's not what you might expect, and it has nothing to do with lack of love! Dr. Eaton clearly explains that it is not the differences between men and women that are the reasons for divorce, rather it is due to a difference in the amount of innate sexual hunger which has nothing to do with men vs women, because both men and women are either hungry for sex, or not, and each have all different degrees of that hunger. Marriage problems are more due to compatibility issues due to mismatched sexual hunger. The insatiable desires of women and men are better of appropriately matched to other mates with the same sexual desires. The problem is with our mating methods when selecting a potential mate our species tends to put on its best face to impress and seduce potential mates to seal the deal. This leads to misrepresentation, i.e. women and men misrepresenting themselves as being sexually proficient with high levels of sexual desire, enough to satisfy any mate. You may have noticed that many of these sexually desirous individuals revert to their standard level of sexual desire. Also, presented are solutions for couples experiencing relationship problems due to differences in sexual hunger, breaking through the age old idea of infidelity and presenting ideas and examples of how to have and maintain a happy marriage, even if you are unequally matched in terms of sexual desire. Get prepared to enjoy the full satisfaction from your personal level of sexual desire, enjoy all the sexual activity to match the libido that you were born with, even if you are in a mismatched relationship. This could be the only real answer to how to save your marriage, even if you share sexual hungers on opposite ends of the spectrum."

Lost Girls written by Nicholas Terpstra and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-06-21 with History categories.

In 1554, a group of idealistic laywomen founded a home for homeless and orphaned adolescent girls in one of the worst neighborhoods in Florence. Of the 526 girls who lived in the home during its fourteen-year tenure, only 202 left there alive. Struck by the unusually high mortality rate, Nicholas Terpstra sets out to determine what killed the lost girls of the House of Compassion shelter (Casa della Pietà). Reaching deep into the archives' letters, ledgers, and records from both inside and outside the home, he slowly pieces together the tragic story. The Casa welcomed girls in bad health and with little future, hoping to save them from an almost certain life of poverty and drudgery. Yet this "safe" house was cruelly dangerous. Victims of Renaissance Florence’s sexual politics, these young women were at the disposal of the city’s elite men, who treated them as property meant for their personal pleasure. With scholarly precision and journalistic style, Terpstra uncovers and chronicles a series of disturbing leads that point to possible reasons so many girls died: hints of routine abortions, basic medical care for sexually transmitted diseases, and appalling conditions in the textile factories where the girls worked. Church authorities eventually took the Casa della Pietà away from the women who had founded it and moved it to a better part of Florence. Its sordid past was hidden, until now, in an official history that bore little resemblance to the orphanage’s true origins. Terpstra’s meticulous investigation not only uncovers the sad fate of the lost girls of the Casa della Pietà but also explores broader themes, including gender relations, public health, church politics, and the challenges girls and adolescent women faced in Renaissance Florence.

Why We Lost The Sex Wars written by Lorna N. Bracewell and has been published by U of Minnesota Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-03-23 with Political Science categories.

Reexamining feminist sexual politics since the 1970s—the rivalries and the remarkable alliances Since the historic #MeToo movement materialized in 2017, innumerable survivors of sexual assault and misconduct have broken their silence and called out their abusers publicly—from well-known celebrities to politicians and high-profile business leaders. Not surprisingly, conservatives quickly opposed this new movement, but the fact that “sex positive” progressives joined in the opposition was unexpected and seldom discussed. Why We Lost the Sex Wars explores how a narrow set of political prospects for resisting the use of sex as a tool of domination came to be embraced across this broad swath of the political spectrum in the contemporary United States. To better understand today’s multilayered sexual politics, Lorna N. Bracewell offers a revisionist history of the “sex wars” of the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s. Rather than focusing on what divided antipornography and sex-radical feminists, Bracewell highlights significant points of contact and overlap between these rivals, particularly the trenchant challenges they offered to the narrow and ambivalent sexual politics of postwar liberalism. Bracewell leverages this recovered history to illuminate in fresh and provocative ways a range of current phenomena, including recent controversies over trigger warnings, the unimaginative politics of “sex-positive” feminism, and the rise of carceral feminism. By foregrounding the role played by liberal concepts such as expressive freedom and the public/private divide as well as the long-neglected contributions of Black and “Third World” feminists, Bracewell upends much of what we think we know about the sex wars and makes a strong case for the continued relevance of these debates today. Why We Lost the Sex Wars provides a history of feminist thinking on topics such as pornography, commercial sex work, LGBTQ+ identities, and BDSM, as well as discussions of such notable figures as Patrick Califia, Alan Dershowitz, Andrea Dworkin, Elena Kagan, Audre Lorde, Catharine MacKinnon, Cherríe Moraga, Robin Morgan, Gayle Rubin, Nadine Strossen, Cass Sunstein, and Alice Walker.
